Its intended to gauge how much the defense is affecting the hitter. Its used as an indicator of how "lucky" or "unlucky" a hitter is. I don't by that though because if you hit nothing but line drives you are going to have a higher BABip than someone who hits a lot of popups or ground balls. That is skill not luck.
Seems that it takes a good amount of skill to hit a HR too!

Julio's numbers with runners on -- and especially with RISP -- are abysmal.

His numbers with Runners on are almost identical to his overall numbers .226 Avg and a .739 OPS. However most of that production has been with a runner on 1st base. Runner on 1st 1.137 OPS in 27 AB's. Runners in Scoring Position .438 OPS in 35 Ab's

It's small sample size but I don't see his approach really leading to massive improvement in the RISP number. It won't be this bad (probably!), but I don't see it being really great and productive unless he starts working the count like a big boy.

I'm looking at the stats on the ESPN site. Batting average/OPS with RISP:

2025 .111/.412
2024 .264/.671
2023 .299/.881
2022 .288/.889

So it looks like a problem that began last year and (caveat: still a small sample size) has become worse this year.

He should have been traded long ago because he is an over rated roster spot. The fact he was batting THIRD today shows you how INEPT Dan is as well.
