It would be a massive downgrade from Cole Young so why?
If C.Y. is ready, yeah, prefer him over C.T. Is he truly ready?
ANYTHING to get D.S. cut & gone.
CY has been an absolute stud for 10 + games. multi XBH just crazy hot. If you could ride a hot streak like he is on you could get a couple of weeks of a star-level player. We have seen this happen a few times: Cade Marlowe comes to mind.

I agree with all the guys bitching about masturbation over Leo the lion and his .313 .441 .333 .774 136 OPS+ line this year and he held his own last year 0.3 WAR in 86 PAs and now this year he has a total of 145 PAs and a 0.9 WAR. Play that hot hand.
"play that hot hand"? I see what you did there.

Could be a juice story.

Failed at MLB level, went to the PEDs, got a big contract, put down the PEDs, walked into sunset.

Looks like a pretty normal career trajectory to me. Hit his prime in the mid to late 20's and declined after 30.

Fairly normal, but slightly early decline. He was .842 OPS at age 29 and .677 OPS at age 31.

Also, how abnormal is it to use PEDs? How abnormal is it to quit them after signing a big guaranteed contract that will have you set for life?

It could also just be a general lack of ambition or desire and shift of priorities. Statistics prove players do better in a contract year and worse after signing a big contract. So, it's always pretty remarkable when a player signs a big deal and then plays great. Cal Raleigh is doing that this year.

That's actually quite normal given the advanced pitching these days. You're right it used to be mid-thirties or even late 30s but now it seems to be very early '30s. Those guys just can't catch up to the velocity.

Chris Taylor signed by the Angels today. Will go right to centerfield and be in the starting lineup on Memorial Day.
Wish you well CT.

Update: He batted 8th, was 0-3 with two K's in a 5-1 loss to the Yankees. Two of the 4 NY pitchers are former Mariners, starter Ryan Yarbrough and Luke Weaver.

Yarbrough, of course, traded by the M's with Mallex Smith and Carlos Vargas (a different Vargas) to Tampa Bay for Drew Smiley who never threw a pitch for the M's because he was injured for his year in Seattle.

Mallex Smith had a strange transaction history with our M's:
~
January 11, 2017: Traded by the Atlanta Braves with Shae Simmons to the Seattle Mariners for Thomas Burrows (minors) and Luiz Gohara.

January 11, 2017: Traded by the Seattle Mariners with Carlos Vargas (minors) and Ryan Yarbrough to the Tampa Bay Rays for Drew Smyly.

November 8, 2018: Traded by the Tampa Bay Rays with Jake Fraley to the Seattle Mariners for Guillermo Heredia, Michael Plassmeyer and Mike Zunino.
Rocky Colavito is a Hall of Famer in my book!

I went to the game, and Taylor was awful. He looked really bad and I'm glad that someone else picked him up.
