What to do about relievers?
Dodgers DFA'd Julian Hernandez today after he threw one inning in the majors. He had a 3.05 ERA in AAA with 49 K's in 41 innings. Throws 100 mph and has hit as high as 103.
Ryan Pressly is still a free agent. He's not amazing by any means but I'm sure he could get some people out.
Chris Flexen had an ERA in the mid 1's until a run of bad pitching that got him DFA'd.
Jose Castillo has been a f/a for a few weeks. He had a 2.19 ERA over 12 innings with the Mets... 17 K's over that time.
It seems like it's about time to bring of Sauryn Lao. He has a 3.00 ERA over 66 innings in AAA for Tacoma.
Michael Hobbs in AA has allowed a lot of walks this year but also sports a 1.85 ERA over 43 innings.
I suppose Gregory Santos may be an option at some point?
I dono. Seems we're kind of f'd when it comes to low leverage relief and they should have made more trades to shore up the pen.

Do you re-sign Munoz at the end of the year or do you look somewhere else (Robert Suarez, Ryan Helsley, Edwin Diaz, Chapman, Pete Fairbanks)

the Mariners have three option years to go, I am going to guess they utilize next season's optionHawkandMariner88 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 16, 2025 6:38 amDo you re-sign Munoz at the end of the year or do you look somewhere else (Robert Suarez, Ryan Helsley, Edwin Diaz, Chapman, Pete Fairbanks)

@HotStoveintel
You think Mariners Andrés Muñoz regrets his Extension? Has made $7.5M that last 4 yrs. Would've been eligible for Free Agency this Offseason at 27 yrs old. Mariners have 3 Club Options 2026-2028 at $24M TOTAL that can escalate to $27M.

I would assume the Mariners have no problem paying Andres Munoz $6M when he's pitched to a 1.31 ERA.HawkandMariner88 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 16, 2025 6:38 amDo you re-sign Munoz at the end of the year or do you look somewhere else (Robert Suarez, Ryan Helsley, Edwin Diaz, Chapman, Pete Fairbanks)

Kowar, Legumina, Saucedo (yes he's still on the active roster somehow despite a 2.36 WHIP), and Vargas should all be DFA'd immediately and replaced by the guys you mentioned.

Do not. Do not pickup Ryan Pressley.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Sat Aug 16, 2025 3:23 amDodgers DFA'd Julian Hernandez today after he threw one inning in the majors. He had a 3.05 ERA in AAA with 49 K's in 41 innings. Throws 100 mph and has hit as high as 103.

I swear they all made a deal with the devil (Jerry Dipoto).
Can't shake these guys despite how terrible they are....
Dilly Moore
Don Solano
Mitch Garver (although keep him for the Mets - he's a Mets killer for some unkown reason).
Thornton
Sauce
Mr. Peanut (Legumes)
Kowar - I'm not sure what he is yet. But I have no recent memory of success when I hear his name.
Vargas - I don't like him. He has brief moments of success mixed in with a lot of bad innings of work.
What about using the Hancocks/Evans of the world as long relief bullpen help?
Opposing teams see them once vs. getting shelled 2nd/3rd time thru the order.

Kowar has a CAREER ERA of 8.29. Probably not a good idea to have a guy with an 8+ ERA on your roster during a playoff chase.seattlefan-daBronx wrote: ↑Sat Aug 16, 2025 7:26 pmI swear they all made a deal with the devil (Jerry Dipoto).
