The M's Rotation is smoke and Mirrors
The truth is that they don't really have an ace. Woo is a # 2 at best and the rest are mediocre starters who have numbers that look decent because of the park they pitch their home games in.
Home ERAs
Woo 2.39
Castillo 2.41
Gilbert 2.22
Kirby 3.38
Evans 3.32
Miller 5.11
Road ERAs
Woo 3.48
Castillo 4.92
Gilbert 4.86
Kirby 5.08
Evans 5.36
Miller 6.38
If you put this team in a neutral home park they would be one of the worst rotations in Baseball.
Looking into the future I think the M's should trade off a few of these guys to bring in some bats. The Park scares off Free agent hitters so use your assets to build an offense from within and through trades. Then you can use your park as an attraction to bring in some actual top of the rotation free agents. Can you Imagine what an actually good pitcher would do with T-Mobile as their home Park. A guy like Skubal would probably post a 1.80 ERA.

That is insande splits. It wasn't that drastic in years past though.
I like the idea of trading for bats and bringing in FA Pitchers though. And for the exact reason you state...FAs hitters aren't going to choose to play half of their games in this stadium.

Gilbert should just stay home on road trips! LOL
His WHIP almost doubles and his ERA more than doubles!

Yeah, that's what I thought. They just fell off a Cliff this year. Must have been all those 82 pitch games they've thrown in their lifetimes....too much wear and tear.

I’d say they just give up after 5 innings when they get zero run support.Michael K. wrote: ↑Mon Aug 18, 2025 4:03 pmYeah, that's what I thought. They just fell off a Cliff this year. Must have been all those 82 pitch games they've thrown in their lifetimes....too much wear and tear.
I don’t have stats to support this, but it seems like the pen is imploding this season, too.
There’s only so many home runs Raleigh can hit. Pitchers need to pitch and the rest of the team needs to stop swinging like they’re hitting wiffle balls.

I would try to trade Castillo and Kirby for a 1B and 3B. Sign a free agent starter or 2 and resign Gilbert.
Woo
Gilbert
Miller
Evans
FA
Hancock
Upcoming:
Cjintje
Anderson
Sloan
Morales

Re: The M's Rotation is smoke and Mirrors
Gilbert, Kirby, Woo and Miller were productive pitchers almost from the get-go and there was reason to think some of them would be elite by now, but (other than maybe Woo) they haven't taken the next step. I'm tired of hearing how great this organization is at developing pitchers because, once they get here, they don't seem to improve.
