He could be the personal catcher of one starter so he just has to learn one starters pitches and tendencies. And then he can DH as well. Yeah he's not playing in the Outfield LOLDonn Beach wrote: ↑Mon Sep 01, 2025 5:42 pmYou think they would play him in the outfield? His premier without any experience at it and in a playoff race? Roster expansion is more about giving your prospects a taste of the MLs without actually having to promote them. He might get some playing time but they aren't stressing him out. I feel like I posed a trick question, didn't mean to
Re: Ford up, Solano Out and more!
What does Solano being "released from roster" mean anyway? Straight up cut from the organization? Or just cut from mlb roster and onto milb roster?

It will expand and give a better option to roster flexibility. If Garver is catching and Raleigh DHing, Ford is a great addition. Later in games, Ford can pinch-run or pinch-hit for Garver without forcing Raleigh to move behind the plate, which would lose DH and force pitchers to have to hit or be pinch-hit for and reduce the bench.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Mon Sep 01, 2025 5:42 pmYou think they would play him in the outfield? Give Ford DH duty or as catcher, Raleigh be the opposite, making Garver the catcher on the bench. I love this move...finally!
Putting Harry in the outfield would not be prudent.

My gut feeling is that Harry Ford will show his mettle pretty quickly. If not, I believe he will be willing to go back down to AAA to work productively on inexperience and on any weaknesses exposed.D-train wrote: ↑Mon Sep 01, 2025 5:45 pmHe could be the personal catcher of one starter so he just has to learn one starters pitches and tendencies. The antithesis of Jared Keleknucklehead, so to speak.

Agreed, nothing wrong with a September callup when a kid's earned it.rockycola wrote: ↑Mon Sep 01, 2025 6:50 pmMy gut feeling is that Harry Ford will show his mettle pretty quickly. The problem with their Kelenic approach, imo, is they basically left an outfield position unfilled every year for him instead of making him perform and force his way up.

I mean, perhaps they're just bringing him up to sit his ass on the bench...Donn Beach wrote: ↑Mon Sep 01, 2025 5:42 pmYou think they would play him in the outfield? Rolling with Canzone's bat against lefties is a much bigger liability than having Ford catch a few fly balls.
The problem with Ford still persists. Even when Garver is gone next year, they're really just going to have him be the back up catcher? He's going to have to expand to other positions if they want to play him.
Solano was pegged as the backup 3B... that seems like it would have been a much greater liability. I'd argue that sticking him behind the dish right now is an even bigger liability than sticking him in right because he doesn't know the pitchers at all.

Why over think it. I’d let him Catch at least twice a week and DH Cal and tell Garver to make himself comfortable in the bullpen warming up Relievers.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Mon Sep 01, 2025 5:34 pmI could see them starting Ford in right against lefties for the next little while.

I'm high on Lao, also, but not so high that it matters whether or not he's on the 40-man roster or DFA'd.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Mon Sep 01, 2025 4:11 pmWow.
What an oddly silent tweet on a Monday morning.
Vogel must be losing his mind. Sauryn Lao (who he called untouchable) has been DFA'd.![]()

Up until 2023 Sauryn was a 3B/1B prospect. Had a decent bat with some power, especially doubles power.
His arm was his ticket, though, so he converted to pitcher. I think he should stick somewhere in a bullpen; time will tell.
