Playoff Rotation
A few weeks ago It was looking like Woo was our sure fire ace and there was no way we wanted Castillo anywhere near the mound in the playoffs.
Since then Woo has been pulled for an injury and Castillo has reeled off 4 straight gems giving up 3 earned runs in 25.1 innings. Assuming they don't get bumped to the wildcard, the post season schedule is...
Game 1 Saturday Oct 4 Home
Game 2 Sunday Oct 5 Home
Game 3 Tuesday Oct 7 Road
Game 4 Wednesday Oct 8 Road
Game 5 Friday Oct 10 Home
How would you set up the rotation?
Given Woo's injury I think I might go....
Game 1 Gilbert
Game 2 Castillo
Game 3 Woo
Game 4 Kirby
Game 5 Gilbert
Gilbert and Castillo have the worst Home Road Splits on the staff so pitching them at home would be ideal. Game 1 of the ALCS is on Sunday the 12th so if they advance they could come back with Woo to start game 1 if everything looks good with his start in the DS.

Heard on the radio this morning that Woo's rehab schedule makes it seem like they might be shooting for him pitching game 2.

Re: Playoff Rotation
They way Kirby has pitched his last few outings I might be tempted to pitch him game 2.
Gilbert 1 secure first home game
Kirby 2 get ahead 2-0 pressure on your opponent
Woo 3 on the road might steal the series
Castillo 4 on the road
Gilbert back home
Then you've got Miller, Hancock, Bazardo to go long relief should a starter falter.

Castillo has been better than Kirby over the last few outings. I also think Kirby's stuff plays better on the road than Castillo's. Castillo's road ERA is 2.11 higher than his home ERA. Kirby isn't great on the road either but he is only 1.39 higher on the road.seattlefan-daBronx wrote: ↑Sat Sep 27, 2025 3:11 amThey way Kirby has pitched his last few outings I might be tempted to pitch him game 2.

Re: Playoff Rotation
Skubal will be going game 1 for Detroit which would set him up to go game 2 and game 5 in the ALDS if the Tigers were to advance. Would you rather face Cleveland who are obviously a much hotter team or face the Tigers with Skubal going twice in 5 games? Might not matter if the Tigers can't score runs. He had a 2.42 ERA in September and the Tigers went 1-3 in his 4 starts.
M's beat him twice this year. Beat him 3-2 at T-Mobile in the beginning of the season. And then roughed him up for 4 Runs in 5 innings right before the All-Star break.
