Canzone isn't a perfect player and probably never will be, but there's a lot of value there. You don't just "get rid" of players like that. Maybe you move him because he has value to another team and will get you something else you need. But don't sell him short.
Canzone isn't a perfect player. I agree.

Gotta add more contact somewhere. Plain & simple.

The Canzone reaction is an emotional response to how he played in the playoffs.

I don't know if Canzone is going to be very good moving forward. But you certainly don't move on from a guy who costs you nothing $$ wise, had an .879 OPS vs righties and can platoon in both RF/DH.

It's like some of you didn't watch what we've trotted out at DH the last 3 years.

What about adding a guy like Nico Hoerner to mix at 2nd. Anybody interested in him? Seems like the ideal leadoff guy. Leads all 2B in WAR. I mean if your not gonna go after a Bellinger or my guy Maikel Garcia to replace Randy why not do the next best thing & upgrade your middle infield with a gold glove caliber type player. I mean is Jerry really banking on ALL his guys to be stars like come on dude. Emerson I get but the jury is still out on Young right? You also got guys like Tai Peete, Michael Arroyo & Celesten. Every single prospect is a role of the dice. Unproven. Who wants to wait for unproven. What have these guys proven in the minors so far, outside of Emerson. Again not enough spots for everybody, somebody's gotta go. I feel like there's been talk of this before but no movement. Definitely worth exploring if your Jerry & Justin.

Coming off a 92-win season, why would the Chicago Cubs consider trading their top bWAR producer in 28-year-old Nico Hoerner?

So, because in year's past we have had shitty DHs because they refuse to spend money, so that means we need to rely on Canzone to be a regular OF or DH? Sorry, anyone that watched him in the playoffs and thinks he has a snowballs chance in hell or replicating his .879 OPS versus righties? They watched different playoff games than I did. He was downright useless. But at least he has no arm to boot.

Canzone had a higher OPS in the playoffs than Fernando Tatis Jr.

Think the Padres will replace Tatis too?

We need to get cost controlled guys in via trade and get away from all these expiring contracts. Dump Castillo for anything we can actually use. Trade Randy as well. We should be able to get back a few cheap, multi year players that we can use to bridge to our next wave of talent coming in, and sign 2 big contracts while adding another one or two solid players on the trade market. We have to start shipping off some of these guys while they still have value.
Used to be Balefire UK, now I'm optimistic!

Yep, exact same track record. Which do you think is more likely to happen? Canzone out hits Tatis, or doesn't replicate his 2025 split versus righties next year?

I would just accept that he's our second best outfielder and go about my business of improving the team.

I don't doubt that Canzone can replicate his success. He's one guy that has been steady all through the minors also and it showed through at the MLB level. There was a time I didn't like Canzone much either. Then I actually looked at his numbers. He's actually good. Surprised me too.

Maybe he's not a Tatis Jr., but he's not the guy you walk away from when he just entered his prime imo.
