The official Hot Stove League Thread 2025-26 Offseason

I have been leaning towards being out on marte and this seals it for me. Donovan and Lowe or Yandy for DH.

I’d go with that Vietnamese/Chinese guy, Phuc Yew Thieu.harmony wrote: ↑Wed Dec 17, 2025 4:07 pmAny chance the Mariners will gamble on Korean infielder Sung Mun Song, whose posting period ends Sunday at 2 pm PST?

Song has drawn comparisons with Ha-Seong Kim, the Gold Glove-winning infielder who recently signed a one-year, $20 million contract with the Atlanta Braves, Kim has posted 15.3 bWAR in five MLB seasons despite a career wRC+ of 99.
Song's stats over the past two seasons rival Kim's stats over his last two KBO seasons. Kim posted wRC+ of 145 and 144 in his final two KBO seasons while over the past two years Song has posted wRC+ of 143 and 151. Song is four years older than Kim was in December 2020 when the San Diego Padres brought Kim to the United States.

Song could be one option as the Mariners look to improve the defense behind their well-regarded pitching staff.

Wow Murakami's window expires in 5 days.. I haven't seen a peep about him. Would be a good DH option though risky.

I was thinking about this and I think right now the asking price is for show trying to get a lot but will settle for some. This is like Suarez at the deadline again - his asking price was supposed to be enormous but we ended up getting him for very little. If we really want him and Naylor signs off on him as Divish suggests - then I bet he's had for Hancock, Young, and another prospect while AZ sends along some $$. That allows us to use Emerson at 2B or 3rd and play/DH Marte.
Re: The official Hot Stove League Thread 2025-26 Offseason
That is absurdly low for the best hitting 2B in baseball and the D Backs would laugh their asses off if we asked them to send money to help play a team friendly contract. They want a MLB ready SP and Hancock is a younger Casey Lawrence at this point.Lamda wrote: ↑Thu Dec 18, 2025 7:11 amI was thinking about this and I think right now the asking price is for show trying to get a lot but will settle for some. Yeah no offense brother but that is ridiculous. Hancock is basically a throw in at this point. BTV has him valued at 0.2 Million surplus value. Suarez didn't cost much because he was a 2 month rent-a-player. Marte has years of relatively affordable control. He is going to cost a ton. You might be able to get it done with prospects but its going to be the prospects that hurt. Something like Colt Emerson, Ryan Sloan and Logan Evans would be about the cost.

Yep or Kirby straight up.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 18, 2025 4:48 pmYeah no offense brother but that is ridiculous. Hancock is basically a throw in at this point. How come Marte hasn't been traded yet? If he's so valuable, you'd think teams would be falling all over themselves to get him, but that clearly isn't the case.
Re: The official Hot Stove League Thread 2025-26 Offseason
Because Hazen has a crazy ask and there is still 2 months left in the Off Season. It is like asking on July 1st why Naylor or Geno hasn't been traded yet.

I think what he'll eventually go for is something closer to what Lamda suggested than what you and Captain said the cost would be. I'm not saying Marte is garbage, but we've seen players at this age fall right off the cliff, and even though the contract is friendly in relative terms, there's a very good chance that the last few years of that deal are dead money.
