I agree, that would be amazing to grab him now.

1B - Busch
2B - Shaw
SS - Swanson
3B - Bregman

There isn't much room for Hoerner in that lineup
All depends if they have enough confidence in Shaw.
Too be honest I've been drinking and I saw his .295 OBP as his BA, he's a top prospect though I think they are going to want him to have his playtime
IMO Boston pivots to Eugenio now

Been chatting with Cubs fans on X and they don't think Nico will be traded. Shaw will be Super UT in 2026 and 2B in 2027. Also they would want MLB players back, one mentioned Brash, not prospects.

Perfect fit for Fenway. Good Call.

Signing Suarez is a step back from where we were in October. At best, we are standing pat, but at worst we lost Polanco and we would be putting our infield in the hands of 2 aging veterans (Geno and JP) and a bunch of largely untested rookies to figure it out. Or not.

We needed a Bregman, not a Suarez or a Willamson.

I've read some pundits who are speculating that Matt Shaw is redundant now as much as Nico, and he might be available at a higher price point. He struggled for the first half of the season, but really figured it out the second half. I think I would take him over Donovan or Nico or Suarez. He has enormous potential, and he's been battle tested.

His rookie year Shaw put up 1.5 WAR in 437 PAs (2.1 WAR per 600) I will work up a trade proposal for you but the issue with Nico being gone next season they will need him. I don't think the Cubs trade either of them.

I'd do that.

Take the money the might have spent on Geno (and to a lesser extent, a Bregman) and get another starter or a bullpen guy.

We don't need another starter and Jerry will never ever spend on a reliever again.

What would the numbers look like if you had Kirby or Miller as the headliner? My thinking is something like that is what it would take. It might even take Kirby (or Miller) + Cole Young + Prospect. Cole Young then becomes their super utility instead of Matt Shaw. I'm not sure I would do it, but I might. I think Kirby probably gets traded next offseason anyway.

Also, my spidey sense tells me they would want Brash and I'm not sure how I would feel about that.
