Had to be one of the worst trades the Mariners have ever made.

We traded him after one season in Rookie League ball where he stunk it up. That's only a bad trade in FAR distant hindsight.

Then there is this, not to compare Freddy to Randy, but Randy was 0-3 with a 5.93 ERA in his first minor league season.

All it proves, I think, is that even the best scouts and GM's can't always spot raw talent. With the exception of Woody Woodward, of course. That is said with a partial wink of the eye.

You know what, I was so focused on how Peralta has been doing in the majors, and so accustomed to bashing all the lousy trades, that I ignored the fact that Lynn had a pretty good season and career, before we acquired him.

So I agree with you.

Check out the Asdrubel for Eduardo trade.

And Shin Soo-Chu for Broussard.

Unreal.

Look at all the washouts from the Angels, Bavasi, Figgins, Spiezio, Washburn.

Every team can point to trades like this. Its frankly unavoidable unless you just stick with all your own prospects and never make any trades. There are always a few prospects that come out of nowhere and become stars. Its just part of doing business and I don't consider it a "bad trade" unless everyone had a good idea that prospect projected well before the trade. Adam Jones and Jason Varitek come to mind.

Right up there with Adam Jones, Jason Varitek, and Derek Lowe
