Julio

Post by Donn Beach » Mon Mar 02, 2026 3:08 pm

You know for all the grief he gets here Julio isn't really off to that bad of a start to his career. Hope springs eternal during spring training. Kevin Seitzer thinks this could be the season Julio gets past the slow start issues. Last year was Cals fifth season, what if Julio was to breakout like that for his fifth season? Interesting the Barry Bonds comp. He put up .301/ .406/ .565 /.970 with a 170 ops+ his fifth season. I've been wondering how they could make up for a reduction in home runs from Cal, maybe it's Julio. Julio skips the slow start and really, you could have Barry Bonds.

Here's Seitzer
“(Mariners hitters) all went through ups and downs during the season, and Julio getting off to his prototypical slow start that I think, I hope, I think is going to end this year,” Seitzer said. “I think he’s going to be more consistent. I just felt like there was a turning point after the All-Star break, kind of going into the All-Star break, that things changed for him.”

I asked google to compare them, the significant difference would be the strike outs and defense
Key Comparison Points:
Rare Power/Speed: Rodríguez reached 15+ home runs and 20+ stolen bases in 81 games, faster than Barry Bonds (90 games) and Ellis Burks (82 games).

Historical Pacing: Through their initial seasons, both are among the few players to achieve 100+ HR, 100+ SB, and 20+ WAR in their first four years.

Differences: Bonds had 272 strikeouts in his first three years, while Rodríguez had 476, partly due to the different eras.

Defense: Rodríguez is considered a standout defensive center fielder, which adds to his overall WAR

I called for the end of his slow starts this season. It just has too even by accident. Just makes no sense that a go can be so good in the second half and so bad in the first half. Just needs to run a .800+ OPS the first half and then he has a shot at the mvp with another stellar second half.

Yeah, wouldn't it be something if it was Julio battling Judge for the MVP this season. I enjoyed the heck out of the Cal battle. It might be silly but it sure beats hoping for a Mitch Garver bounce back.

He needs to chase less and walk more. The way they pitch him, his walk totals should be closer to 100 per year.

Yeah the fact that he actually has a higher BA than Bonds but a lower OBP is very telling in terms o walks. He took a couple last week in one game which hopefully means he is focusing on that....

He may never surpass Barry in intentional walks.
