And like I was just pointing out, this isn't about catering to some local Seattle sports fans nostalgia, this is about marketing nostalgia around the country and around the world.
Re: OT: Supersonics
I remember watching the initial Sonics while attending the UDUB. Rule, Meschery, Hazzard, etc. I also remembering running in to them at the old Checkmate Tavern on Westlake I believe (60's) . It was one of their post game hang outs.

Re: OT: Supersonics
If there's a fair bidding process why would the Kraken ownership group be in line to buy the franchise? After what they have done with the Kraken i would hope they won't be running the Sonics as well. Do we really want Todd Leiweke in charge of building the team? I don't.DanielVogelbach wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2026 5:27 am
I think for Seattle it's just going to be the Kraken ownership group and of course playing in Climate Pledge Arena. (worst arena name possible) But, there should really be nothing getting in the way. It's not official until they approve the bid, but it's looking very much like the Supersonics will be back for the 2028-2029 season.

Re: OT: Supersonics
For me it was in 1976 when I was nine. At my first game my buddy and I ran down to the concourse at halftime and watched the team walk by. We were at ground level and those guys were giants. Not so much Slick Watts and Freddie Brown, but Tom Burleson holy cow.
The game is so much different now from where we left off. Teams are shooting threes sometimes more than half the time, and players are so good at it that the game has suffered. It's just not fun to watch and it's never coming back, ever.

I attended the Slick Watts basketball camp out at Birch Bay about that same year in 1976, by my hometown of Ferndale. It was for an entire week Got to play him one-on-one and against him in ping-pong too. He was a great guy. RIP.DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2026 4:43 pmFor me it was in 1976 when I was nine. It's going to be interesting how they play it, marketing wise. I'm hung up on the nostalgia angle. It's weird, they get the name, record book, pennants. I'd play it totally retro. I think jersey sales be through the roof. Isn't that the burning question? What's the jersey gonna look like
Re: OT: Supersonics
It had better be something close to the original or the 90s style, otherwise I'm not interested.
Re: OT: Supersonics
Aurora started a thread on the Hawks forum about it. Would they allow a team named the Super Sonics to play at Climate Pledge arena? LOL

Re: OT: Supersonics
Wouldn't it be cool, that initial expansion team. Just go with thick tough guys, busting them down low relentlessly, wearing retro sonics jersies. Why not, not going to win any games anyway.DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2026 4:43 pmFor me it was in 1976 when I was nine.
