I'm sorry, he just sucks as a closer. Every fucking time it's a fucking adventure with this fucking guy. He's got two pitches and barely any idea where they're going. Half the time he can't even get it over the plate. And this is what we get with closers with this team. Mariners closers are always like this. Anybody that's actually good, like Edwin Diaz, we trade.

It's weird, his stats are very good (WHIPS of 0.961, 1.027 and 1.000 in 2024, 2025 and 2026 so far) but it seems like all too often we see clown shows like last night, walking two scrubs with two outs for no reason at all. But all things considered, he's been solid for us and if he has a good season he'll be only the second pitcher in franchise history to have more than two good seasons (Kaz Sasaki being the other) as a Mariner closer. It's a fickle position, and just about every good closer we've ever had has had one good season closing, and only on very rare occasions does someone (like Mike Schooler) actually have a second good season.
