Just curious, why all the cascade of injuries?

Post by Hy Feiber » Sat May 16, 2026 3:41 pm

The injured lists get greater all the time, even for position players, and I don’t remember from years ago, the nonstop injuries, with a 9 man pitching staff.

With a four man rotation, and starters routinely pitching complete games, with upwards of 150 pitches.

It further damages the quality of the game because much of the time fans are actually watching minor leaguers.

Like the Astros.

You would think that baseball officials would reconsider this obsession with pitch counts, as they have appeared to save nobody from injuries.

Just need to get back to the old days and ways. In the offseason, beer-drinking and carousing. Work at ACE Hardware or a roofing company until spring training. When the pitchers return, they're ready to throw 300 innings with 12+ complete games. Simple.

Spending the night with a woman never ruined a baseball player. It's the all night looking for one that does them in.. Casey Stengel

I saw a video of a NBA player that he took at his crib with three girls at 4am after a successful night at the club. One of the comments was, "Damn, dude's hitting 3s on and off the court." lol

You might be onto something there, by the way, who the hell ever gave a damn about Babe Ruth’s exit velocity?

12 complete games, more like 25.

Hah! I actually typed 25, reconsidered because the faint of heart here might go into shock when reading the incomprehensible. I reduced the number to 12.

Random Hodge Podge of pitchers thru the ages. Who pitched while sore?

LH - Warren Spahn - 6'0" - 175# - 382 Complete Games in 21 Years
RH - Don Drysdale - 6'5" - 190# - 167 CG in 14 years
RH - Nolan Ryan - 222 CG in 27 years

RH - Catfish Hunter - 181 CG in 15 years - also hit 6 HRs, .226 BA, .521 OPS
LH - Whitey Ford - 156 CG in 16 yrs. You all know how much I hate pitchers under 6'. Ford was 5'10" - 178#. Well done Whitey, and I know you struck out Rocky Colavito a few times.

RH Cy Young - 749 Complete Games in 22 years - Nine years of over 40 CGs - Pitched from 1890-1911 - Big man in those days: 6'2" - 210# - Went to bat 3107 times in his career.

RH Juan Marichal - 244 CG in 16 years
LH - Randy Johnson - 100 CG in 22 years
Shoreline's own LH Blake Snell - 1 CG in 11 years

RH - Max Scherzer - 12 CG in 19 years
LH - Jamie Moyer - 33 CG in 25 years - 6'0" - 175#

Out of Renton, WA & the UW Huskies - LH Tim Lincecum (The Freak) - 5'10" - 170# - 10 CG in 10 years - and he did manage to get 53 hits in 474 ABs (519 PAs). Can you believe he last pitched in 2016? Although he tried to make a comeback in 2018, getting 10 relief appearances in AAA for Round Rock in the PCL (Rangers)

VERY VERY RANDOM. How many batters were HBP from some of these pitchers?

Spahn - 42

Drysdale - 154 - How many times did Don hit a batter with intent and a glare? - 154
Ryan - 158 - How many with revenge in mind and malice? - 158

Ford - 22
Marichal - 40

Jamie - 140 - How many of those didn't feel a thing" - 140

Randy - 190 - How many batters were nervous? - Over 17,000

So you had it right the first time.
