At least we only traded two first round picks for him.Michael K. wrote: ↑Wed Jun 03, 2026 7:54 pmAlmost seems as though Donovan needs to DH. The dude is brittle. He has played in an average of 72% of his teams games played in the last four plus years. That is worse when you consider in 2024? He played in 153.
So,
126 out of 162 in 2022
95 out of 162 in 2023
153 out of 162 in 2024
118 out of 162 in 2025
25 out of 63 in 2025
Take out the outlier season of 2024?
You have an average of 113 games a season coming into this season. And if he played every game after today? He'd still only play in 124 this year. I am counting on him very little. I guess it's a good thing the young IFers seem up to the task. Call me very pleasantly surprised about that!

No offense to anybody. Competition is great, the fun of any endeavor is sweet. At almost 74, knees, etc. just say no.DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 03, 2026 9:30 pmYou're not kidding. I was playing third about a month ago and some guy who played in the Blue Jays organization smoked a line drive that curved and caught me right in the heel of my glove hand, at first I thought it was broken.Michael K. wrote: ↑Wed Jun 03, 2026 9:17 pmI got hurt and had to hang up the cleats awhile back. It was ten years ago last night!DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 03, 2026 9:09 pmIf you actually saw these 50-and-over players play, especially in the major-plus division, you'd be amazed. Michael K has played the game too and can probably attest to this.
I used to get asked to play in the 50 and over stuff, once I turned 50 a few years ago, but I can promise you I can't compete at that level anymore. Those guys are freaking nuts. My buddies that play are traveling all over the Nation to play in Challenge Cups or some shit like that. And I think they can swing the Senior bats right? Fucking scary shit. I played LF, so I'd have been fine, but who the Hell would pitch to those monsters swinging those bats!?
And yes, those senior bats are something else. I'm 59 and still hitting 400-footers. The only thing is they cost $ 200 and you can only hope you'll get a few hundred swings before it breaks.
You can probably at least play 50 AAA (it goes AAA, then Major, then Major-Plus), the defenses are suckier and nobody plays a five-man infield so you can do reasonably well there.
However, slow pitch to me was casual Sundays. Fun, chicks, beer, more chicks.
Softball to me was Fast Pitch. Pitcher 46 feet away. Reaction time for a batter is critical and instantaneous. Low scoring games were the norm. Put me at the hot corner and I'm ready. I had no talent as a pitcher.
As a hitter, a 60 mph softball pitch in baseball is equivalent to a 95 mph fastball in softball.
It was fun while it lasted and I'm happy for both David and Michael for their dedication to what they do or did in slow pitch.

I fear my GT streak is nearing it's end.
Warming up in the dressing room is the fat lady. Her screeching is painful to my ears.

As well as he is playing offensively JP is evolving into a defensive liability due to limited arm strength and mobility. He extends innings for opponents

They actually have, if you can believe this, an 85-and-over division. How the HELL do you find enough guys to field a team?rockycola wrote: ↑Wed Jun 03, 2026 9:57 pmNo offense to anybody. Here in Washington, 3A and 4A play Girls Slowpitch in the Fall. I coach both Fastpitch and Slowpitch now, but a couple of years ago when we started playing Slowpitch I ran a 5 man. Everyone was so damn mad. We turned about four double plays a game on balls hit right to the Wheel. She'd just step on second and fire to first! I was stunned that non of the other coaches in the State had seen it!
Took 3rd in State that year, and the next year. The next year when we went to the State Tournament? Everyone ran some kind of five man, at least in certain situations. I moved out of it in year three. Too many balls in the air now, and I no longer have three studs in the OF that can cover it up. We also didn't qualify for State! I really do think if you have the horses to run it, that defense is a killer.
