A potential trade target for the M's
Re: A potential trade target for the M's
Is this the realistic list of right-handed hitters they could trade for?
Willson Contreras, Red Sox
Taylor Ward, Orioles
Austin Martin, Twins
Casey Schmitt, Giants
Spencer Steer, Reds
Seiya Suzuki, Cubs
Am I missing anyone?
[Edited to add Seiya]

There's that, be be an interesting target, don't know if they be interested in Castillo
Since May 7, Suzuki is slashing .202/.269/.303 with a wRC+ of 64 in 119 plate appearances. During that same stretch, he's striking out over 28% of the time, and has 3 home runs

We're about to face 3x lefties with sub 3.50 ERA's vs Boston.HawkandMariner88 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 13, 2026 6:27 pmWe need pen help more than bench bat but I get it.
We'll see if that's still your belief after that series.

Matt Chapman, Rafael Devers (if Giants eat $), Byron Buxton...
Re: A potential trade target for the M's
Devers is a lefty FYI

Another interesting name to think about for the bullpen is Devin Williams of the Mets. I know his salary is bloated but if you can get the richest owner in baseball to eat most of that, you gotta seriously consider it & with one of the nastiest pitches in the game, it makes it even more enticing to go along with Munoz high octane heater. Stats don't do it justice. 1 bad game against Miami & he's looked great ever since. Stecker also mentions adding Vientos as well when it comes to a bench bat.

Mark Vientos and Devin Williams, New York Mets
Despite having the highest total payroll in MLB, the Mets are in last place in the NL East with a 34-43 record entering Monday. With not much right going on in the Big Apple, it would make sense for them to offload some players that have been coming up short.
Vientos, 26, is another case of someone who had a breakout season in 2024 (.837 OPS, 26 home runs in 11 games) but has been a negative-WAR player since. This year, he has a .223/.256/.393 slash line for a .649 OPS with nine doubles and nine homers in 63 games.
He’s been a first baseman this year but has played more at third in his career, and even though he doesn’t do much with the glove, he remains a source of right-handed pop. The 31-year-old Williams, meanwhile, is an experienced closer in the first year of a three-year, $41.8 million contract with New York – which honestly is a no-go. But if the Mets are willing to pay off a good amount of that salary, then it would be an interesting conversation.
While Williams has a 4.81 ERA and 1.52 WHIP, he has converted 11 of 12 save chances. And he still throws one of the nastiest changeups the game has ever seen – it’s nicknamed “The Airbender” and operates almost like a screwball, diving down and across the plate to his arm side.
Can you imagine him in the 8th & Munoz in the 9th holy shit. Again Chapman should still be #1 but I doubt Williams is high on most teams lists. Again this is only with the caveat that NY pays down most of his salary.

Because he has a lot of money he's going to pay a guy to play for the Mariners. Actually I doubt he's interested in doing that. This keeps getting brought up. What trades have there been where teams ate a bunch of salary?Another interesting name to think about for the bullpen is Devin Williams of the Mets. Yup... Refsnyder went 1-9 with a base hit. The M's managed just 6 runs over 3 games and 9 total hits. They got dominated vs the Red Sox lefty starters as expected.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Sat Jun 13, 2026 7:50 pmWe're about to face 3x lefties with sub 3.50 ERA's vs Boston.HawkandMariner88 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 13, 2026 6:27 pmWe need pen help more than bench bat but I get it.

A right handed OF/DH bat is desperate now.
Also... Devin Williams is horrible. Why would the M's take on any money to add him?
