Unless they cost less than $7M on one year deals like Garver and Refsnyder...GL_Storm wrote: ↑Tue Sep 29, 2026 8:27 pmSure. In the interview with Paul Silvi, what he was pretty clear on is the broad philosophy of not going after declining players in their 30's in free agency. He really, really doesn't want to do that.

Not go after declining players? Just shitty ones? That's fucking hilarious.
Re: Stanton on selling the team
I was wondering about this. I don't see anyone defending the Garver signing, and the only defense of the Refsnyder signing is "who could have predicted how bad he would be?" So I wonder if Stanton is saying we are not going to sign guys like those two any more. And I wonder if Stanton had this conversation with Dipoto.D-train wrote: ↑Tue Sep 29, 2026 8:42 pmUnless they cost less than $7M on one year deals like Garver and Refsnyder...GL_Storm wrote: ↑Tue Sep 29, 2026 8:27 pmSure. I have been to 8 other MLB parks and none have even close to the insanity that goes on in T Mobile I bet they have double the marketing budget of any other team...GL_Storm wrote: ↑Tue Sep 29, 2026 8:27 pmSure. How else do you wanna create more revenue streams. Fuck at this point might as well be the SeattleD-train wrote: ↑Tue Sep 29, 2026 8:16 pmI can't post it any longer but he is literally on record in a Katie Griggs Forbes article saying that the priority is to find new and creative ways to drive revenue and then and only then will they have the resources to invest in payroll and build WS winning teams..GL_Storm wrote: ↑Tue Sep 29, 2026 7:59 pmDo you really think so or are you just saying that because you're disappointed and angry? Probably a lot - that's the impact of winning on revenue, but Stanton and Co. probably think the high attendance was the result of bobblehead nights, post-game fireworks, and hotdogs from heaven.
Fuck baseball let's just make it an entertainment show.

Sure, and the new Atlanta stadium is called an entertainment village, it and the surrounding real estate is devoted to drinking and having fun. Cohen is trying to build the same sort of thing in the queens. You aren't going to convince me that Stanton is more intent on entertainment than other owners around the league
Truist Park and The Battery Atlanta are widely considered the gold standard and a blueprint for future sports venue development.
When the Atlanta Braves opened the complex in 2017, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred called it a watershed moment for the industry. Years later, other teams and leagues are actively replicating the model.
Why It Is a Model for the Future
• Year-Round Revenue: Traditional ballparks sit empty for 250+ days a year. The Battery's shops, offices, hotels, and restaurants draw over 9 million visitors annually, making real estate operations highly profitable beyond game days.
• Revenue Independence: Real estate and commercial lease profits generated around the ballpark operate outside traditional MLB revenue-sharing rules, letting ownership groups capture massive financial upside.
Enhanced Fan Engagement: Porous stadium architecture connects directly to plazas and dining, turning a 3-hour game into an all-day social experience

I remember when the Japanese were considered the problem, getting rid of them was celebrated. Be careful what you wish for. I do believe there's dumber owners than what we have now, ie Anaheim Angels
