In my opinion, these guys can't get on a roll because theyre sitting once every four games or so. They play for 3 hours a day, actual effort about 20 minutes (pitchers aside), including batting practice.
So why tf are they babying them? Let the good players play, this isn't Little League where your 25th man has to fill in for somebody every game.
As Jeff from Seattle Sports Insider opines, we lack Hope. Can't say he's wrong. Good writeup.

Re: Mariners lacking Hope
The typical Seattle fan gets some of the blame as well. Ichiro was treated like a god at spring training, every time he walked out of the dugout or came off the field he was given a loud round of applause, the younger players see this as a legend getting his due maybe, but after going 1 for 20plus he still got the celebrity treatment. They are basically giving him adulation for his past not his current body of work...kind of like the FO celebrating 1995 for the last 25 years. In a winning environment they celebrate the past glory while giving hope to the current team... This city responds to winning, the sad thing is the typical mariner fan doesn’t have that to hold onto, Which tends to focus their attention to a slap hitting has been.........
Re: Mariners lacking Hope
A culture of tolerance to be sure.
Mallex Smith couldnt hit his way out of a paper bag, deer in the headlights Ackley-style, and people thought time was the answer.
He needed to get his S straight. He still looks terrible to me after his first game or two back, once he supposedly got his swagger back.
I think he keeps his swagger in his hat because it seems to be just as fleeting as his talent (and his hat)..

Giving \Ichiro "adulation" for his past body of work?? How does a ballplayer get 262 base hits in a season and walk away with only sixty RBIs? It's a miracle of unproductive hits. Absolutely pathetic....
Every position player the Mariners have gotten from Japan has been massively over rated.
BTW, the Mariners aren't devoid of hope, they have no management in the dugout, they have no talent on the field, they have the worst broadcasters in baseball, and are the only team in major professional sports in America that has never appeared in a championship series. But they show up.... that shows hope..

The Mariners’ fans lack hope. The Mariners’ org and team lack everything else, except some suckers to fill seats.
