Personally, i don't give a fug about who pays off Bruce's remaining salary. Jerry had better not trade him without getting some young baseball talent in return. Isn't that what this is all about, trying to leverage these aging vets with something left in the tank for the chance at having young talent under control for 5 years or whatever at minimal cost? That's where Stanton and co. will be saving their money.
Re: Bruce to Phillies
The problem with your premise is that Bruce isn't worth any good talent coming back. He's a HR or nothing type hitter. Add in his large salary and again - he's not getting us anything back. We'll get a warm body that won't amount to much.

Add in his large salary... ? Then just offer to pay it. Beats having to pay Big-market dollars for free agents.
Re: Bruce to Phillies
It doesn't matter either way - we're getting a bag of peanuts for him. Anyone hoping for more than that needs a reality check. We'd have to throw in some good prospects along with Bruce to get one or two back. He's not an elite player, he doesn't have super value or anything of the sort. He's a decent complimentary player at best. With any luck we'll get a bullpen arm.

He was a part of Cano tradeSibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Sat Jun 01, 2019 8:00 pmWhat is the connection between Bruce's contract and the Cano trade? I thought they were separate deals. And don't forget, the M's still have $18 mil owed to Seager for 2020. Encarnacion and Felix will be coming off the books though.Sexymarinersfan wrote: ↑Sat Jun 01, 2019 7:37 pmSomething had to give. And frankly Dipoto getting anyone taking on that massive remaining contract, is already a genius!!! He's basically unloaded Cano's albatross contract for Kelenic and change!

I’m being patient.
After all, when DiPoto first took over, I distinctly recall his saying that “after my first 100 trades, I will Start looking to Trade Everybody!”
That’s The Plan.
So just sit back ya’ll, and Be Patient.
