RIP Steve Dalkowski

Post by Petert » Sat Apr 25, 2020 3:49 am

A living legend, without the trappings and the tinsel. A victim of Covid-19. How very sad.

Amazing that he lived this long. I'd like to know what he had physically that made him so much faster than the rest.
Maybe he had tremendous adrenaline reserves that he could spend at will..?
With today's coaching, I'd like to think he might have made it to The Bigs..

in 1965 I was in the on deck circle with him on the mound and probably drunk when the 3rd out was made. The Tri-City Angels were playing an exhibition game against Columbia Basin College. I was a happy camper.

Now, THAT is an awesome anecdote.

If I had a nickle for everytime I heard some guy at a bar talking about how he used to throw 100, or hit a ball 500 feet, or run a 11 second 100, or bench 350, etc. .
With my luck I'd get tired of listening [for the umpteenth time] to some guy bragging about his 110 MPH FASTBALL, then challenge this Dalkowski Guy to meet me at the high school to throw me a round of BP.

I was 19, young and bulletproof but I was happy I didn't stand in there. For you guys that remember Eddie Feigner my other youthful claim to fame is that he struck me out pitching blindfolded from 2nd base.

I remember him. The King and His Court barnstormed the East Coast occasionally when I was younger.

We were talking about Dalkowski in this forum not all that long ago. What a unique life he lived, all that talent which he didn't turn into success, and then seemingly lived life the hard way afterwards even though he wasn't a bad guy. Hopefully he got something good out of life.

And no, he didn't throw harder than Ryan, let alone 115 MPH. I swear, the crap that even supposedly rational players come up with...

RIP and all, but he died of coronavirus? Based on his bio, who knows what he actually died of. Sounds like more epidemiologist stat-padding.
