 Minor League INF 3B Jake Scheiner will be the player coming to Seattle for Jay Bruce. Scheiner will be reporting to Single-A Modesto.

Some people inside the organization were high on Jake Scheiner. College pick, turns 24 in August. He's played a bunch of positions and has a shot to be a big league utility man. Per: Matt Gelb

Stats on Scheiner

Meanwhile the Seattle Mariners #1 Prospect Jarred Kelenic is off to a torrid start!!

Kelenic so far has batted .309/.394/.586 in 50 games.
Looks like he has a pulse! Jake Scheiner was the Phillies' #23 prospect going into 2019, but has since fallen out of their top 30.

I would've traded him for a bag of Philly Cheesesteaks if the Phillies were willing to take ANY of that money. Big Win for Seattle. And if that doesn't pump you up enough, I know this will!!!

Jake is a utility player similar to Jordan Cowan in age and skills, though more power and hits right hand. Drafted out of Houston... college player.... 113th player taken in the draft, 13 homers last year along with 30 doubles.... adds minor league development depth, certainly provides some value. I'll be heading over to Modesto to watch Jake, Jered Kellenic and Cal Raleigh in action.

What salary relief? We get to pay for the prospect to the tune of $18mill.....so Philly gets a servicable guy for $3+ million and doesn't give up anything other than a depth piece...how is that a "win"?

Go back to the offseason and start with the Cano/Diaz trade and read forward.

That really does sound like an underwhelming return. Maybe they actually like the kid we got back though. We had no idea about Vogelbach either. We didnt have much depth at 3B, that much was obvious enough wasnt it?

Builds organizational depth at an area of weakness and saves some money.

Seattle is sending them 18M so the deal does not look great. They get back a 23 year old prospect that has a .771 OPS in A-,A, and is now in A+. The only silver lining is he was a 4th Rd. pick so some upside.

It appears as if the M's got less in the Segura trade. I was hoping that they would get a better return this time around.

The M's will have 38 players on the 40 man. I'm not sure what is going on with Tui, but he could be activated off the 60 day IL.

The M's need to fill the Kikuchi start on Tues. Sheffield won't have 4 days rest and Swanson is on the DL. Andrew Moore is on the 40 man, he's down at AA. Moore gave up 4 earned runs in 5 2/3 innings in his last outing.

They have Niese and Misiewicz at Tacoma, the M's would have to use up a 40 man spot for either of them. Gerson Bautista should come off the 60 day IL soon too so he will need a 40 man roster spot.

The Phillies are laughing all the way to the bank, and maybe to the playoffs. The Mariners, meanwhile, are the laughing stock of the league.

Though I still love the Mariners... at least in concept.
