Dip does it again-acquires Austin Adams for milb Nick Wells

Jerry Dipoto doesn't often make deals :P , but when he does he usually trades a lefthanded pitcher
I liked Wells but he wasn't setting the world on fire. He appeared fringe.

Per a team release, the Mariners have acquired righty Austin Adams from the Nationals for lefty Nick Wells and cash considerations.

Adams, 28 tomorrow, was designated for assignment earlier in the week by Washington. He’s spent much of the last three seasons with the team’s AAA affiliate (now in Fresno), where his sky-high strikeout rates (13.88 per nine in ’17, 15.15 per nine in ’18) ranked among the league’s best. His walk rate, too, was relatively low for an extreme bat-misser, so it’s a bit odd the reliever-starved Nationals couldn’t afford to give him a longer look.

Wells, 23, is repeating High-A Modesto as a 23-year-old. He didn’t rank among the team’s top 30 prospects at Baseball America’s last update.

It will probably be years before we can grade this blockbuster. Props to you Rocky for having an opinion either way on this one.

Adams just might be a solid bullpen righty. I suspect, until learning more that he throws heat. As a reliever, 12.7 K's per 9 innings. In limited MLB it's up to 15.4 K/9.
Flip side, he walks a lot of batters, he throws a lot of wild pitches and, quite frankly, I'd be scared scatless to dig in. He seems to off a few with the hbp's.
Big guy, 6'3, 225. Be sure to wish him a happy birthday tomorrow, May 5th. He turns 28. Hope the Mariners can turn him around, harness his gifts and lessen the negative aspects of his hurling.

I must be slipping in my old age...who are these f'kng guys?. Austin Adams was not on my wish list, in fact neither do I care about Nick Wells... Has Dipoto checked out parolees from Walla Walla or Airway Heights yet?

I was thinking it's been a long time since Ziskmagic posted here, i wonder why he chose this thread to make a re-appearance.
