Wow, I never would have guessed Javier even played an inning at any position other than OF.

Javier was a good player for us but I don't think he ever played infield.
David, David, David, David, David........

In 17 years he played 1513 games in to OF.

38 at 1B

15 as DH

3 at 2B

2 at 3B

smh...........................so I guess he was a shortstop :P

Oh, but he did play 3 games at 1B for the M's in 2000. 8-)
Hard to call a guy utility when 96% of his games were played in the OF, and in only 3% of his games did he play defense in the dirt.

Almost like calling Sucre the first Ohtani or Babe Ruth.

With Amaral and Cotto they would play so well when used sparingly that I wished they would get more playing time. The problem seemed to be when they were given big blocks of playing time, then their production faded to some degree.
I was always happy to see either of these guys given a chance to manufacture a run when the game was on the line.

McLemore was the guy that was the utility guy. Didn't he play every position but Pitcher and Catcher that year?

According to B.R. he never played 1B in his career with any team but I'd bet he could've and would've if called upon.
We'll never know if he should've.
I liked Mark. He did decline in his last year with the M's in 2003. Still hated it when he was granted free agency. Baltimore scooped him up, released him a month later and Oakland signed him. 2004 was his last season.
He wasn't a prolific HR hitter in his career, 53 total in 19 years but his last MLB dinger was launched against the M's off of Gil Meche.
Rocky Colavito is a Hall of Famer in my book!

Rich Amaral came in 5th in AL Rookie of the Year voting in 1993. The California Angels' Tim Salmon took home the honors - another great player who inspired forum fish puns before Mike Trout hit the scene.

And look who somehow got a single vote that same year...our own Jerry Dipoto. I'm not sure if his 1.54 WHIP would have garnered much attention from the future GM version of Jerry Dipoto.

Some great names here for a slow news day..

Jarrod Dyson is a similar type utility only guy.

Give him 200 at bats at most.
