Payroll situation
Re: Payroll situation
This year J.P. Crawford posted 2.8 fWAR, valued at $22.4 million:mostonmike wrote: ↑Sun Nov 02, 2025 8:29 amWe are paying JP Crawford $12 mill ?
He cant even throw a simple ground ball to 1B without causing the fielder to stretch like Nadia Comăneci and tidy up his waywardness.

Crawford benefited from great picks by his first basemen, but Crawford was charged with only five throwing errors:

Nine shortstops had more throwing errors than Crawford this season. Five more tied Crawford with five throwing errors.

Spotrac offers another look:harmony wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 3:26 amAnother look at the prospective 2026 Seattle Mariner payroll:Lonnie In Colorado wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 1:27 amPer Cot's, the M's will have a payroll of $127,822,381 for the traveling 26 man roster on opening day, 2026. Where did you get your numbers? I'm willing to bet the difference is in the projected arb dollars. A difference of almost $7 million is very significant.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 31, 2025 9:12 pmTotal = 134.79 M for 28 Roster spots
M's Payroll for 2025 was around 165 Million. So unless they increase significantly they only have about 30 Million to spend. It will take 30 Million just to resign Naylor and Polanco. I predict that there are going to be a ton of disappointed M's fans when they see the way this off season plays out.
Cot's has the opening day 2026 40-man payroll at $130,492,181.

Re: Payroll situation
Garver is a free agent which seems to open up a spot for Harry Ford and, I assume, means the M’s freed up $12MM.

Re: Payroll situation
I disagree , look at pitching value and his durability. He is making 20 million and still has that value or close. They may not get much of a return but assume their goal would be to create salary spaceCaptain 97 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 03, 2025 4:40 pmNo one is taking Castillo unless you pay most of his salary.

You didn't spend any time researching all that, did you?
Bloody hell.
Go on, I dare you to have a chuckle at this photo from a practice session earlier in the season.

Re: Payroll situation
He is going to be 33 and has an ERA+ of 104 over the last 2 years. Who is going to pay 20 Million for an old pitcher who is barely above league average. BTV has him valued at -7.4.desbcoach wrote: ↑Mon Nov 03, 2025 10:10 pmI disagree , look at pitching value and his durability. He is making 20 million and still has that value or close. Bryan Woo will get $1,540,676 from the MLB Pre-Arbitration Bonus Pool:harmony wrote: ↑Fri Oct 31, 2025 9:39 pmThe Super Two system is imperfect.
Seattle selected starters Bryce Miller and Bryan Woo in the fourth and sixth rounds of the 2021 draft.
Miller and Woo made their MLB debuts in 2023, Miller in May and Woo in June.
Miller has posted 3.7 bWAR in 402 MLB innings, including a negative 0.8 bWAR this year. Woo has posted 7.2 bWAR in 395.2 MLB innings, including 4.3 bWAR this year.
With two years and 153 days of MLB service, Miller is a Super Two with a projected 2026 salary of $2.4 million.
With two years and 121 days of MLB service, Woo falls short of Super Two status and is likely to earn near the league minimum of $820,000 in 2026.
That difference of at least $1.5 million can be compounded annually over their three additional years of team control in 2027-29.
https://apnews.com/article/baseball-172 ... 2e7a57dd9e
... bringing Woo roughly even with Bryce Miller in earnings from the end of the 2025 to the end of the 2026.
However, the bonus money is not included in the baseline for raises in the later arbitration seasons (and should not count as part of the Mariner payroll).
