Oops... didn't see that. But as I understand it (and I understand very few things) Mr. Gaedel had a 1.000 OBP.

Tenace just ahead, posted his stats some time ago.D-train wrote: ↑Tue Mar 31, 2020 12:10 amI just posted the all time list a few inches above your post. He only had 72 SBs in 2100 games and had a negative Bsr metric so not a lead off prototype...Double Mocha Man wrote: ↑Tue Mar 31, 2020 12:06 amDavidGee24 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 30, 2020 11:52 pm
He had a few seasons where he had over 700 plate appearances so he had to have been. Amazing he walked so much considering he wasn't much of a threat as a hitter. Imagine someone like Ben Gamel drawing 125 walks.
Good point. I "Baseball Referenced" him and he stands 5' 10" tall... so he was no Eddie Gaedel, who BTW, holds the all-time record for OBP.

Thought you might have. He rang a bell. I think I have his baseball card.Hy Feiber wrote: ↑Tue Mar 31, 2020 12:26 amTenace just ahead, posted his stats some time ago.D-train wrote: ↑Tue Mar 31, 2020 12:10 amI just posted the all time list a few inches above your post. Is it a very small baseball card? The guy was only 3' 7".

Bill Veeck’s autobio, “Veeck as in Wreck” has a superlatively funny account of the whole Eddie Gaedel episode. Well worth finding.

His strike zone was the size of a small juice box.Petert wrote: ↑Tue Mar 31, 2020 2:47 amDouble Mocha Man wrote: ↑Tue Mar 31, 2020 2:15 amIs it a very small baseball card? The guy was only 3' 7".!!!

Indeed.
Veeck recounts he told Gaedel that if he swung at anything, Veeck would be watching his at bat with a high-powered rifle from somewhere in the stands. Eddie dutifully took four, trotted to first, doffing his hat along the way.

I think they probably credit the record to John Paciorek who in five plate appearances in his only MLB game had three singles and walked twice.Double Mocha Man wrote: ↑Tue Mar 31, 2020 12:06 amGood point. Love his OBP... guessing he was a leadoff hitter?

The running game was pretty much non-existent back then. Not sure why, you would have thought the faster players would have been running a lot given that it wasn't exactly the steroid era. Really weird.D-train wrote: ↑Tue Mar 31, 2020 12:10 amI just posted the all time list a few inches above your post. How does a guy who has three hits in his first game never play again?DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 31, 2020 3:35 amI think they probably credit the record to John Paciorek who in five plate appearances in his only MLB game had three singles and walked twice.Double Mocha Man wrote: ↑Tue Mar 31, 2020 12:06 amGood point.
