You have to look at not only who has performed the best, but what positions on the team are going to be filled. Vogelbach is our top guy, but if there's a glut of DHs and slim pickings at C, Narvaez will get the spot.

I doubt those making the selections are even going to look at WAR. i just don't see Vogelbach making it unless they take 4 DH's. Somehow Pence got voted in as the starter. Austin Meadows is hitting .300 and his OPS is higher than Vogey. Encarnacion is leading the League in Homeruns and then there is JD Martinez with the name recognition and his manager in charge of the team. I guess maybe they could sneak him in as a 1B ( He has only played 24 games there) but I think its a long shot.
They have to pick one of our guys. Omar is a nice player but there is nothing about him that makes me think All STAR.

He is the #1 DH by any measure. Meadows whose OPS is one point higher has played almost half the games in the OF.

That's Why I think it will be Santana. 17 HR and a .280 AVG and leading the League in RBI will look like an All star to most people and fair or not. Farley's Batting average is going to be an issue for people.

We are talking about Baseball where they gave a Gold Glove to Palmeiro in a year where he played 28 games at 1B. It's the Players and coaches making this decision not sabermatricians. They are going to look at Meadows .300 average and not give Vogelbach a second thought.

I know that they are probably more focused on old school stats but I just can't see them going with far and away the worst defensive player in baseball to rep the team in the AS game. 347 players have 100+ PAs. He is DEAD last. 347th of 347.

Players contracts are now based on sabermetric analysis. Guessing they know what WAR is by now but I agree WAR is silly when comparing DHs. If the didn't have the mandatory one rep per team nobody would make it but Vogey is the best player on the team without question.

Again I doubt those making the decision even have an idea of how bad he is defensively. and even if they did, Offense rules in popularity contests. He is leading the League in RBI.
