Re: Corey Brock Mailbag with my comments
He isn't a real power hitter but he does have a 0.820 ops since coming off the IL

I prefer France at 2B and sign a 1B bat for 20% the cost of Semien.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 4:55 amYou rather White?Seattle’s multi-positional contact expert is threatening the best first base season in Seattle since Russell Branyan in 2009 and, depending on your metric, to be the first first baseman to lead the M’s in fWAR since Richie Sexson in 2005

Think there be a better chance of them hitting the pause button on White and opening the season with France at
first than signing a FA
first than signing a FA
Re: Corey Brock Mailbag with my comments
I guess. Not like the 1B would be blocked from moving to DH.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 5:06 amThink there be a better chance of them hitting the pause button on White and opening the season with France at

Last thing I'm doing is arranging plans around Evan White in a season we're planning to contend. White has been left behind imo.
Re: Corey Brock Mailbag with my comments
Keeping Seager and signing Cruz probably adds more offense than signing Semien would.

That's you, in terms of them my money be on white being the OD starter. I hadn't realized how much WAR France had accumulated. That's when I found that article. I'm talking about France possibly winning the position to begin next season. They could go in some other direction, who knows.
Re: Corey Brock Mailbag with my comments
They can add a player at any of 2B, 3B, 1B or DH and fill around.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 5:23 ambpj wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 5:11 amI guess. Best bang for their buck in free agency is at 1B and DH.

Sure, in terms of their deciding to add a FA, they could do it anywhere. Said before I think that could likely come down to finding a willing FA rather than filling a position.
Re: Corey Brock Mailbag with my comments
If Bryant or Semien cost $25M/yr for 5 years i think we would be better off with:
Seager 1 yr/$10 M (or a 2/20 most likely)
+
Cruz 1 yr/$13M
For one year and complete flexibility going forward.
Someone mentioned they wanted to sign guys that will be here the next several years. Which is great in theory.
But how many of these 5/$125M type guys are a guarantee, or even likely not to be a flop in Seattle? I'd stick with short term guys personally.
I'm not even a Seager fan. But, for less money I think Seager+Cruz brings more depth and production and less of a future contract impediment than a guy like Kris Bryant or Marcus Semien.

I would not be so cheap with Seags unless you were 100% that he would agree. I really like Carlkos C. I believe he is worthy of a big contracts and will be 27 next year.
I woulkd say we are major contenders with this and fine on $ factor
Seags 15 M, Cruz 15 M, Carlos 26X7
Max S 1x4o 2 for 75
Seattle is at somewhere around upper 60's to 75 million keeping everybody including JP, Haniger, Kik, Seager etc. Clearly if we get Carlos and keep Toro, Seager, and France JP has gotta be flipped for something.
So flip JP for something and you start at 70 M with seags etc, add in the others you are at a 151M payroll and this is your team
SP
player ERA+
1. Max Sherzer 132 career
2. KiK* If he s o the team he pitched himself back up to a 120 ERA+ or so
3. MArc*o has been the 22nd best starter in baseball the last 2 weeks and has been solid to special for 3 years.
4. Gilbert about a 105 ERA+ but promises of more
5. Flexen 109 ERA+
6. Dunn 111 ERA+ (depth)
That is a really solid group.
BP is stacked with Giles and Munoz added to present cast. Justus traded or added to BP
Line-up
1. SS Carlos C 127 OPS+ (career)
2. 1B Ty France 120 OPS+
3. 2B Toro 123 OPS+ (Switch)
4. OF Haniger 124 OPS+
5. OF Fraley* 128
6. DH Cruz 135 (career) been more like 140-160 last few years
7. 3B Kyle S.* 105 OPS+
8 C Cal, Murphy, Torrens (Switch< right)
9 OF Lewis 106
Bench D Moore he is good, Torrens, JK I used Fraley for the OPS+ numbers but that is what I expect to see from JK
It just seems to me adding Max, Cruz, Carlos, and retaining Seager makes the 2022 M's looking likje a 120 OPS+ offense and a 120 ERA+ defense
2023 you lose Cruz, Seager, Flexen, Haniger but by then Gilbert-Hancock-Williamson, Marte, Julio
