What pos is he? All I see is he's an outfielder. Can he play center? I would say M's shouldn't be in any OF discussions unless it's someone who can play some 3b or 1b
Just sent you an email.

The one thing I like about free agents is it doesn't cost prospects and it takes away FAs available from other contenders. The M's are probably not going to be in this payroll position as compared to their competitors for a long time.

I like free agents too, but I don't really like this crop of free agents when it comes to cost aside from Corey Seager, Freddy Freeman and Starling Marte. The M's would likely have the best shot at Marte compared to the other 2.

To me, Correa, Semien, Story, Baez all have a lot of risk associated with signing them. Bryant is a good ballplayer but his value as a FA is clinging onto hope that he might return to the .900 OPS hitter he was when he came into this league - that's a big risk. Schwarber had a great year in 2021 but there's a reason the Cubs released him and he hasn't shown the consistency to replicate this kind of production. Rodon, Ray and Gausman are all sort of 1-year wonders. Scherzer, Verlander, Greinke, Kershaw are all on the older side and have injury concerns. Stroman is probably the best young pitcher you can rely on the most to pitch to around a 3.00 ERA, but he's probably a no. 2 starter, not an ace. Belt is old. Conforto is good but coming off a terrible year. Syndergaard is way too injury prone. etc. etc. etc.

Agree with all, except the Cubs just didn't like Schwarbers defense, obviously, and they didn't have 1B (or DH) open.

Not to mention they brought him up young so he'll be playing his age 29 season next year. Haniger will be 31, Semien 32.

Yeah I would love dropping another bomb on his former team, Hiroshima. Too soon? :)

Yeah Schwarber might be the best value even though he was a far better OFer than Fraley and JK this season. He sucked in the short season like a lot of good hitters did but was good in 2018, very good in 2019 and great this season. I like the trend.

Also, you have to take the risk with Semien give 47 of his batted balls would have been bombs at T Mobile, his good OPS, great D and versatility.

The FAs are a risk in one way or another. Nelson Cruz was a risk. Try to sign them to a shorter contract with an option (no poison pills like Seager).

I'm not into saving $2million/yr. in contract efficiency when you want to contend. Just get some quality pieces. It would be different if we were in the same position as going into 2020, but this is a different situation. Of course, I don't want a $250+ million contract either.

I can see this. I like Torrens' bat quite a bit. Problem is, he doesn't really play any position that well. Would love to snag a lefty OF for him. But I prefer M. Conforto.

No need to stop at OF depth. Torrens for Matt Olson. I could live with that.

Wow I guess he really is Jesus Montero Jr. with no hope to be a catcher.
