His email address is in there so be my guest. :)
Sorry. Yeah - that wasn't directed at you as an action-item so much as it was an observation that Divish is either insanely naive, or in on the joke with the rest of management if he thinks Ohtani is a possibility next year.
It's not actually. Ohtani's preference is the west coast, and west coast teams competing for titles. It's really down to three clubs next year: Padres, Giants and Mariners. I do think he likes the Seattle market given how similar it is to Japan. Remember, too, the M's were runner-up to LAA when he first signed.

Hi Guys,

Any plans to ask Jerry or Hollander what changed to go from Jerry talking about possibly moving JP to 2B to sign one of the big 4 FAs to him talking about Free Agency like it is a Crypto Currency Ponzi scheme?

Thanks!

I think you may have misinterpreted what Jerry said about the shortstops …. https: //www. seattletimes. com/sports/mariners/mariners-analysis-looking-at-the-middle-infield-market-and-where-j-p-crawford-fits/

Thanks for the quick reply. I appreciate it.

I was referring to this from the end of season presser. Virtually everyone interpreted this to mean that he was going to at least check in with the big Four FA SSs and maybe he did. But now to not even be looking for a legit full time LFer is quite a massive reversal of the narrative. Its like the M’s set payroll budget in late November and it ended up being lower than Jerry anticipated?

“Our great preference would be we could land a shortstop that would like to go play second base, but we are not going to close the door to anything in that regard,” he said. “J.P. is our shortstop, he’s an emotional leader for us. We feel he does a very good job in anything we ask him to do. He was banged up at the end of the season as well, dealing with a knee issue of his own. He has a way of elevating the emotion of our team in a way that very few in our clubhouse have the ability to do. He will line up for us opening day at shortstop and our goal is to put someone around him. If we do find someone who plays shortstop, that person could very likely move to second base.

They did check in with the agents for all of them. But they were never going to give any of them 300 million when they want to go after Ohtani next season. Both Hernandez and Wong have one-year of club control.

And none of those free agents were going to move willingly unless you gave into their contract demands. They could still talk to Correa or Swanson again. But the Red Sox and Giants and Braves will give them the money they want and not ask them to move.

I mean they could still look at Benintendi or Conforto. I doubt they will go on Nimmo. And I don’t think he’s a $100 million player.

Maybe they weren't going to give them 300 Million but even if they were just checking in they had to be prepared to give at least 20-25 Million a year for whatever length the contract was. So the question remains how did they go from that to looking for a a bargain baseman platoon hitter for LF?

Yes I wasn't satisfied with Divish's answer but decided to not ask him again since he did provide the inside info on Ohtani. I can not believe that guys getting paid to report about a Pro Sports team aren't willing to ask that question. Just weak and lazy.

The M's will not pay what he will ask, and what the market demands, full stop.

Padres maybe tapped out (I forget what's coming off the books next year, but they're already at the luxury tax threshold). Giants can and will pay stupid money. Can't think of why and Angels or Dodgers aren't in the mix as well.

No Can do Kung Fu. Not a RH bat. lol
He could DH. You saying you would rather give AB's to Kelenic over a proven All-Star? Never thought I'd see the day lol
I am referring to Jerry's absurd focus on getting a RH bat.
The Ohatani bs is just kicking the cheap can down the street and can easily be explained away next year when they lose out in the sweepstakes

Yep one day people will quit falling for the BS but that end isn't in site from what I can tell on twitter. 30% of people in Salk's poll said they wouldn't want a the M's to have done a single one of the FA deals that have been done so far.

The Angels will be under new ownership by spring training and could do several things one of which rebuild and what better way to do that than sell the biggest FA in a generation. ohtani will not resign with the angels and a QO is peanuts to what a big trade would bring. The other option is to somehow attemp to resign Ohtani with new ownership promising a contender this seems more unlikely than the first option

Just a huge segment love to point at the large contracts and say they are crazy. Like I said either it is a coping mechanism, sour grapes or they are truly concern about our owners finances.
