True, France's power evaporated, a what's wrong with Ty France article on lookout landing. All they come up with is getting hit too many times. Thought that kinda interesting, even lookout giving up
Do the Seattle Mariners plan to have France in their Opening Day lineup next year? It’s really hard to envision, but that is a winter question. If the M’s are to keep playing into this fall, they have to be honest with themselves - and France must be honest with them - about what he is capable of right now.

I don't think the HBPs are driving it though he is now 4th since 1900. Good chance he at least ties Baylor for 2nd.

Ron Hunt was next level.

Since players are allowed to wear all kinds of padding and protective gear, i wonder why there aren't some that get decked out and then lean into the path of inside pitches to take one for the team (or to pad their OBPs).

Or what would happen if a player crouched down so that their shoulders were almost as low as their knees. Wouldn't the strike zone then get compressed to just a few inches in the vertical?

There are rules that limit body armour, also the batter is supposed to attempt to avoid being hit. If they don't they won't be awarded first base

There are 135 qualified hitters right now. Here are a few select HBP rankings. France is currently fourth since 1900 and just 2 away from tying Don Baylor for second.

1. France - 33
2. Giminez - 20
62. (Median - 6
132. Raliegh - 1
134. Santana - 0
135. Hayes - 0

If France had the median number of HBPs he would be on base 27 less times. That would lower his OBP from .336 to .284 and his OPS from .694 to .645. If you assume that if he doesn't get hit he still gets on base 1/3 of the time it would lower it by 18 times on base and he would have a .298 OBP and a .656 OPS.

He doesn't walk that much but he makes up for it by getting hit

Yep. Bizarre because he doesn't really stand that close to the plate to explain 33 HBPs vs. 1 for Cal and zero for Santana.

The one time being a slow oaf pays off. He can't react fast enough to get out of the way.

As for the body armor? We lost a game because with the bases loaded and an 0-1 count? Some girl stuck her elbow over home plate and drew a bases loaded HBP. It certainly does happen. We showed the ump the GameChanger video after. He was like "wow, I missed that one". At least he admitted it. A girl from our cross river rivalry school did it twice and got away with it. Of course, over the course of three games we beat them 43 to 2, so we weren't arguing much. I realize this isn't fastpitch, and certainly not at the MLB level of umpiring, but I am certain that if they forced them to remove the fricking knights of the round table armor they wear? The HBP numbers would go down because they would have to move off the plate.
