Over pay!!! LOL
I think stupid salaries are here to stay. If anything, Arizona making the WS on a shit salary fortifies Dipoto's stance on spending.
That's why I couldn't believe the Dopes on Mariner's X couldn't extract their heads out of Sewalds ass enough to see that....

Ohtani had a 6.0 WAR this last year not even playing the full year. Would he even put up a 2.0 war in 2024 as a DH? Maybe. But think 4 or 5 WAR in 2025, and then likely 6 WAR in 2026. So perhaps $300 million for six years is an overpay for 2024, but if he can, and should put up 4's or 5's for the remaining three years, the m's could be looking at about $10 to $12 million per year for his WAR numbers during that time. Is it worth it for a potential League MVP for a couple of those years? Is the Pope an Argentine? The Rangers paid Cory Seager about $6 million for his WS MVP.

Excluding the farce that was 2020 Ohtani has put up 19.6 bWAR as a hitter in 5 seasons. Average of 3.9 WAR per season.

If he played any defense at all whatsoever, he would be.

I wouldn't be surprised if we saw more players add this into future contracts.

Just get us Jose Ramirez without having to give up Raleigh, Gilbert, or Kirby, and I'll be happy.

I agree that DH needs to be a priority. If that's Mike Ford, then he needs to be on the Opening Day Roster. But this shuffling players around crap to give them a day off isn't working. No, get a guy whose hungry and wants AB's in there to hit the shit out of the ball. Don't offer it as a way for regulars to take a half day off and lolly gag a game between positional starts.
