You've got to understand, the Hall of Fame voters let the College Football Playoff committee do the selection this year. Clueless is as clueless does.

Was one ballot short, the veterans committee is HOF members, it's his contemporaries, more than the sports writers

From the Atletic report:

The 16-member panel, formerly known as the Veterans’ Committee, includes Hall of Famers Jeff Bagwell, Tom Glavine, Chipper Jones, Bud Selig, Ted Simmons, Jim Thome and Joe Torre; major league executives Sandy Alderson, Bill DeWitt, Michael Hill, Ken Kendrick, Andy MacPhail and Phyllis Merhige; and veteran media members/historians Sean Forman, Jack O’Connell and Jesus Ortiz.

Would love to know what the five voters that didn't vote for him were thinking when the chose not to elect an 80 year old man that gave almost a half century of his life to the game. Especially the clowns that voted for Leyland but not Lou. Nobody would have questioned it if he got elected. Pathetic.

Twice now he's fallen a vote short...

From a reddit thread
You're leaving out something pretty important. Leyland has 3 pennants. The only managers who've won that many and aren't in (not counting guys who haven't been eligible yet) are Charlie Grimm who never won a World Series, and Ralph Houck who inherited a dynasty that had already won 6 World Series and 9 pennants in the previous decade.

If Piniella gets elected he'd be the first ever manager in the HOF with only 1 pennant.

Absurd. He had more wins far better winning % and more division titles than Leyland. It should be total impact on the game. Leyland never played a game in the Big leagues. Lou won two WS titles with the Yankees as a key contributor.

What it should be? It's their club. That was his 3rd time on the ballot

There's a woman too, Phyllis Merhige. Can't find anything really about her

I gave up on the HOF when the Negro league committee that was created to get Buck O’Neill into the HOF managed to pass him over.
