3B, Get Bregman,
Who should be back...

Re: Who should be back...
They need to add at the top everywhere they have a vacancy, no doubt.
This team needs MOTO hitters.
We were all harping about it here before the season started. They had seven or eight guys that could bat in the 6 spot in a good lineup, but we had no 3/4 type hitters.
They can't just skip that and hope "having a deep lineup" will carry the team.
It won't. They need sluggers that drive runs in. Otherwise, runs don't get driven in, you just get a lot of LOB.
Re: Who should be back...
I'd rather have Castillo than Snell because Snell is sooooo injury prone. You spend $30mill+ on maybe 100 innings or $20mill(mostly spent on hair products) on 180+inningsBig_Maple wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2024 7:13 pmLove your plan, SoB.
I would make 2 big changes, though:
First, open the fucking wallets and land Soto. It's totally possible if we just agree to spend what it takes. He will be worth it in jersey sales alone. Soto could be the spark - and role model - that JRod finally needs to get his act together, and a JRod, Soto, Arozorena outfield could be really, fucking scary.
Second, trade Castillo. He's too inconsistent, and as D-Train's father observed, he obsesses too much about his hair. I just don't think he will ever be an ace, and we are going to owe him a shit ton of money. Trade him. Then, spend like a sailor on shore leave and get Snell. As someone else pointed out recently, he actually wants to pitch for the Mariners, and he's not just lightening in a bottle.
So yeah - I love your overall plan, SoB. I just think with 2 huge headliners deals, the M's will finally have all of the pieces to get us to the promised land. Ownership has to show us that they're serious, and nibbling around the edges is not working.

Re: Who should be back...
Soto would be awesome but remember, this ownership doesn’t like to spend money so unless he agrees to something around $20,000,000 we won’t be able to compete.
Re: Who should be back...
If they could dump Garver and Haniger with Castillo's contract then Soto would be pretty much paid for next year.
Chances are about as low as they were when we signed Cano.
Looking back it's even more inexcusable that they didn't trade for one or two of these top bats when they were actually available on the trade market.

Re: Who should be back...
Why cut Garver just to have to sign another backup catcher?
Bench: Dylan Moore, Ryan Bliss, M's sign a backup catcher.
DFA Haniger and Garver, non-tender Josh Rojas. Put Canzone in the minors or trade him.
Re: Who should be back...
I’d love to trade Castillo. But, do you believe Stanton would allow that money to be spent? Or put into the profit back into owners pockets???
As a fan I just have zero trust or faith in the leadership. They have lied since the Mather situation, and continue to do so.

LOL and it is totally possible that I can travel to Mars if I just spend what it takes to build a rocket ship..Big_Maple wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2024 7:13 pmLove your plan, SoB.

Well, I agree that my plan - or any plan for acquiring FA this offseason is audacious. It requires spending - real spending. Not "sifting through the flotsam", spending. Dumpster diving gets you dumpster fires. And maybe we are in a place where the M's have trimmed the fat, and winnowed the roster to the point that they are actually poised to spend this offseason. They fired Servias which I never thought they would do (but always hoped they would). That's a move that shows they are serious - it wasn't just a mid-level, junior-coaching sack. It was a move to remove upper management.
Also, while I don't know anything about your financial situation, I'm guessing that you really can't afford to build a rocket ship. It's not a case of having the money, but not wanting to spend it. So the difference is Stanton has the money. He could buy 10 Sotos and still have enough money left over to build a rocket ship. It's a question, then, of willingness rather than ability.
Re: Who should be back...
Sure and they have proven time and time again this decade that they aren't willing. I am not even going to bother with an off season plan this year. Total waste of time and that is sad.Big_Maple wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2024 2:21 pmWell, I agree that my plan - or any plan for acquiring FA this offseason is audacious.
