Just had a Welcome to California Earthquake. 5.1

Epicenter only about 10 miles away halfway between here and Malibu....Can't make it up...
Just so you know, California gets a "shaker" every time a conservative moves to the state. It was passed into law back in 2004.
I think you caused it! But then escaped just in time! lol
Every time I go to California, I feel dirty just by crossing the boarder. The when I leave, I have sense of relief.

Do the locals there just carry on nonchalantly with their day, Darren? Or is there a certain Richter figure that rattles them all - like 4.0 and above for instance?
Yep, business as usual. There are actually more people in the office than on a typical day. A few humorous mentions of it and that's it. lol
The Richter scale isn't linear, so an earthquake of that size (the one this morning) isn't a big deal even when you are right there. Start getting up into the 6s and you are talking having trouble keeping your feet. People notice that.
The 2001 earthquake was a 6.8 and caused pretty significant damage

Yes, I lived there then. But actually I was in Seattle for a job interview so I missed it. The accounts from my neighbors and the types of damage I saw were frightening. I think the vertical accelearation was greater than 1 g, which means that ANYTHING could have been tossed into the air (including a house that wasn't tied down - hence - lots of houses were off their foundations).

Yes it did and then it took them 18 years to replace the viaduct. Government efficiency in action we should give them more taxes

Good correction. My dates are obviously confused.

Yeah, but I'm used to that kind of dirty. Not as bad as California, but it's home.

Amen!!

I actually lived in Bellevue for 9 years. Thank God none of the politics rubbed off on me, granted Bellevue used to be the conservative area around Lake Washington.
