It's the argument that getting consistently in the playoffs gives you a better shot at a WS than throwing everything into one or two seasons, but it's a strawman. The deal is we keep debating their strategy when to me the issue is them failing at their strategy. Okay, let's have a team that makes the playoffs five straight seasons and see what happens. Let's put the strategy to a test. The problem is they are failing at making the playoffs. It's not about the strategy being flawed, they aren't executing the strategybpj wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 12:41 amIs that how you interpret what he says there?Donn Beach wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 12:38 amStanton, the goal is to make the playoffs

I don’t think Jerry will even think about Soto and that’s ok. I do think he will kick the tires on Santander, Bergman and the first basemen but will bail when they become bidding wars. That takes us back to trading without giving up too much in terms of prospects. And that’s what drives most of us whacko

They've achieved their goal. They were in position to make it every year the last 4 years.
They just didn't.
Because the strategy itself is flawed.
Dipoto has put the team he wanted to on the field the last three years. He's just terrible at doing it.
Even this last season, there were players left in free agency that would have obviously improved the team. He actively chose not to add them because he liked the team he assembled.
Re: Xmas Carol: “Jerry did you hear”
They think it is impossible to go for it every season even though that is what the Astros have done for almost a decade. Stanton cited the Royals being bad for years after winning it all in 2015 even though we have a far bigger market than they do so it is a ridiculous comparison.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 2:56 amIt's the argument that getting consistently in the playoffs gives you a better shot at a WS than throwing everything into one or two seasons, but it's a strawman.
