I'm glad someone in here gets it. Why would any prospect or player care about playing for the Mariners after Mathers comments. If i was Kelenic, im probably on the phone with my agent requesting a trade.Sexymarinersfan wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 6:29 amNot even close to my meaning. I'm talking about the clincher that is Mather’s highly inappropriate attitude regarding the Mariners’ foreign players.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 6:21 amYou mean like when he was talking about all the improvements with the training complexes in latin america and how far they go to make sure the players are prepared to live in the U.S.? I don't recall him saying that was a bad thing or a waste of money.Sexymarinersfan wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 6:12 amHe comes across as elitist, entitled and culturally insensitive, and that’s an indefensible combination, and there is no room for those types of personalities in management, especially this day and age.
That will do irreparable harm in its own right to a team that has already lost the faith of its fan base — deservedly so — and now faces a potentially rebellious squad. That's what I mean.
Our organization likes to boast about the great culture they’ve built in here. However, these remarks by Mather to the Rotary Club two weeks ago reflect an ailing culture at the very top.

Man listening to the last part relative to Mathers comment is something else. He never has to search for the right word, his vocab is good and even his grammar which is the hardest part is almost perfect.harmony wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 3:25 amKevin Mather could speak with Julio Rodriguez in Spanish if he doesn't like his star prospect's English (which is not bad):

I took two years of HS Spanish and I could barely order a Taco in Spanish today.

What an idiotic comment. This is an open forum that welcomes all.acctingman wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 2:54 amThere are so many old white guys on this forum....too funny.
Mathers is gone. This org has been a joke for years, and this is just another reason why they will suck for many years to come.

Per BR, Seager has made $83M to date and has been worth $247M per FG below. Only year he was overpaid was 2018 when he made $19M and was only worth $12M

Again, what benefit was gained by telling a bunch of strangers that Seager is overpaid.....even if he was.
When I am deciding whether to share potentially sensitive info (say sharing US patient market share data with the EU, Latin Am. or AsiaPac regions) I do a quick mental cost benefit analysis as to whether sharing the data will benefit them more than any any negative impact of the US not wanting their data shared. Mather seemingly didn't do this once throughout the entire call.

I wonder if Sheffield and Lewis also have been offered long term deals and if not they might be wondering why the white guys got the offers and they did not.

See it doesn't matter if we think its racist. Totally irrelevant. Its if the players do and we all know the answer to that given most of them think that a cop shooting a criminal resisting arrest and threatening the cop's life is racist.

It's really hard for me to wrap my head around this. The guy managed to offend and disrespect our longest tenured player, our top 2 prospects, his own employees, former Mariners greats (Ichiro and Edgar) and all international talents. Oh, and any free agent who was interested in coming here. Was he hammered drunk or something? I mean, this guy can't be this dumb, right? Before this came out I was thinking we were approaching a possible golden era of Mariners baseball. Why would any top prospect or major free agent want to play here under this dipshit's guidance from here on out? And to see people defend this garbage. No wonder the Mariners havnt been worth a shit in 20 years.

yeah, he had no business sharing any of that with the public, that is what the owners would be wondering about. He is an accountant running a baseball team. I am assuming that is why he put in that position. He was remarkably honest about it, how totally bottom line the organization is focused, as well as again showing a total lack of consideration with how to deal with employees. It really was an amazing presentation...
