Watch the Rangers throw caution to the winds and go get him
You may or may not be kidding here, but I have actually been wondering about the Rangers. They have a new stadium, and they are spending money on free agents like sailors on shore leave. Is it possible that they collapse financially? They're not a big market team, and they just don't seem to be making smart decisions. I mean they arguably got better a lot faster than the M's did, but not by tearing it down to the studs. Did they get too big, too fast by throwing big money at big name players?

Obviously, unless there is a bidding war (which I doubt there will be), if the Rangers did sign him, it wouldn't be for a lot with the Dodgers footing most of the bill. But they have an estimated overall budget of $197M...
The Dallas metro area has more people than the Seatle, Portland and Vancouver BC metro areas combined.

Dallas 7.6 Million

Seattle 4.1 Million
Portland 2.2 Million
Vancouver B.C. 2.6 Million

They call it the Metroplex for a reason. You never have to leave here for anything. There's a major freeway shaped like and oval that goes around both cities of Ft. Worth and Dallas with the 4th largest airport in the U.S. sandwiched in the middle. I'm never leaving here. And yes, it's tremendous. It used to be super cheap to live here, but California's have been flocking here like crazy, so the housing market has skyrocketed lately.

The Rangers new stadium is the ONLY ballpark in the world that has TWO concourses on two separate levels that go all the way around the stadium. When you walk around, there's plenty of elbow room. It's nice. It's built right into Texas Live which is INSANE! It draws so much money. 80-90 restaurants built in. The whole thing is a huge cash maker. Texas has all the resources it needs to sign whomever they want. Free agents WANT to come here.

This has all been built in the last 5 years so there's a reason that Texas is on the rise. They've had big plans for awhile now.

Never one who's afraid to admit they're wrong, I'll happily admit my post was gestational, at best. Mostly just a thought about the fact that the Rangers have been spending like crazy in what seems like the early part of a rebuild. They don't spring to mind (to me) as perennial big spenders (like Yankees, Dodgers, Phillies and Red Sox, for example). They were very aggressive last year which stands in comparison to the rather tentative approach to free agency that the M's have taken. I wondered, out loud, whether they might be overspending. That's all.

FWIW, I am aware of the size of Dallas-Fort Worth. My brother-in-law lives there, and I caught some games last June in Globe Life when the M's were in town.

My vote is for Harmony to be the official lawyer of the forum. With the bunch we have in here, at some point, this place will get sued.
