If he is cooked, it's not "up to him" to pitch better. He may just not be very good anymore.

We aren't explaining him getting to 180 innings. We believe he is going to suck next year the White Sox wont let him near those 180 innings.

You're arguing very slim odds that he's worth that vesting option. We have had the stance that the odds of that option vesting because he's actually pitching well are insanely low.
This is such a stupid, pedantic argument. Both of you are morons that just like arguing.
Ah right, pedantic to just sit there while some moron claims that there's a snowball's chance in hell that a 34 year old pitcher who is physically declining, performing like shit, and on pace to throw 155 innings this year (not hurt)... is going to magically pull a horse shoe out of his ass next year and justify a $25M vesting option... and not say anything?

You would have to be criminally stupid to think Castillo has a chance to make ANY team want to pay him $25M in 2028 given the trajectory of his performance.

Do you know how many pitchers toss 180 innings each year? About 20. Out of 200ish starting pitchers.

But sure, the stances are equal. Thanks GL_Storm... great input...
You just can't stand it when anyone disagrees with you. Even when someone is 90% in agreement with with whatever point you're making, that other 10% gets under your skin and you can't let it go.

In this particular case, all Donn is pointing out is that there is at least a chance that Castillo turns it around next year and his option vests, and that he himself does in fact possess some agency in influencing that outcome. That's obviously a true statement. It's not really worth arguing about. Considering how unlikely that outcome is, you could point out reasonably that Donn is being pedantic in bringing it up, and you would be right about that as well. But that isn't good enough for you. You just have to win this stupid, meaningless argument. You have to make sure that Donn and the 5-10 other active members reading this (along with however many lurkers are out there) all understand that you are the winner of the argument and that your logic is unassailable in all respects.

Because Donn will never concede ever that his 1% reality is nonsense.

You can explain it to him 100 times over and he never gets it.

My responses help people on the forum understand the reality of that vesting option. So yes, I'm going to drive the point home.

It is tiring just how silly people throw that vesting option around like it means something... media members included.

They started him at 3B in favor of JP Crawford at SS...

They've already done it.

And I don't think that's true... if Emerson continues to struggle with the bat they'll have him sort things out in the minors.
But they aren't going to trade for a SS with YEARS of control to replace him.. Massive difference.
You may very well be right.

But they could also view him as a 3B which many pegged him as during his development. Especially considering we don't really have a real 3B in the org.

Trade for Lopez, move Emerson to 3B, have Dono play the outfield. Could be your best chance to improve in '27.
Turns out my inkling was correct.

Per Rosenthal, they apparently checked in on Neto.

"The Seattle Mariners, knowing they can play Colt Emerson at third if J.P. Crawford departs as a free agent, were one of the teams to show interest in Los Angeles Angels shortstop Zach Neto, according to people briefed on their conversations. How is that up to him?

He might just be a bad pitcher now.

Is he going to magically regain command, sit 98 mph, and have elite secondaries?

History isn't kind to players like him.
He just needs to try harder. Maybe Felix can become his pitching and mental skill coach this off season.
Maybe he will who knows. They aren't going to have to limit his innings if he isn't pitching well. And if he is pitching well why would they limit his innings?

Honestly, I think along with more financial classes for highschool students they should kick in some in logic as well
I did take Logic in HS and crushed it!

Huh...it's up to him to pitch well. I'm saying the option is irrelevant. Explain to me how he gets to 180 innings without pitching well? If he's on pace for 180 innings he's pitching well. I don't understand what the debate is about

Read that this morning. Who is the better SS?

Neto isn't a good SS.

Colt is better.

I more had Lopez in mind... and I bet Neto isn't the only SS they checked in on.

Neto has high defensive metrics according to bWAR although he makes a good number of errors (15 so far in 2026), and he's a bopper. Plus, he's only 25. If we had the choice between Neto and Emerson over the next three years, I think that Neto would be the better player although it's possible that Emerson could emerge despite him not having a particularly good rookie season.
