Listen... he didn't pitch well... no question.

But JP needs to make the play on the Seager ball and Shed needs to catch the fly ball. Good teams make those plays behind their pitcher.

Yes, that ball to Crawford was blistered and the fly ball was just out of Long's reach... So two brilliant plays by the Mariner defense might have limited the damage.... but that ball to Crawford was smoked.... they did not charge Crawford with an error, nor Long with an error.. so sometimes good teams don't make those plays and the pitcher still avoids getting hammered..... plus how many managers allow the bullpen pitcher to face all nine batters without getting an out? I haven't seen anything that bad for years...

Is he really the future at SS?

Crawford is starting to do the same thing he did last year (start hot, then crash), but without the excuse of wearing down at the end of a long season. If he can't pull himself out of this slump and he winds up near the Mendoza line again, it will be a serious problem. I've written a couple of times that J.P. is one of the keys to the step-down; if he fails it is bad news. But another key for me is Sheffield, and fortunately he has started to look pretty good, so all is not lost. For Dunn and Fraley the jury is still out, but starting to trend down a bit. Of course, no worries about Kelenick and Julio if only he can stay healthy, and no bad news as far as we know for the three starting RH pitchers in Tacoma.

Given all this, it is good that we are tanking, because we will really need that very high draft choice. Come on, Sexy, we are depending on you!

I think Stripling will be vulnerable to Lewis, Moore and White from the right, Crawford and Seager from the left, all who like the low strike... First time for the Seager brothers to face each other in the MLB.... I'm thinking Joe Kelly is suspended? The first four in the Dodgers lineup are fucking lethal...Dunn could crack.... but I'm thinking he'll rise to the occasion and go after these guys...
