Finally! Official Hot Stove League Thread
Re: Finally! Official Hot Stove League Thread
Even Dalton Varsho is beyond our grasp, headed to the Blue Jays.
Bryan Reynolds or bust at this point.

That's a pretty heavy trade.

I think MLBTV had Varsho a bit overrated.
I think they have Reynolds a bit overrated as well.

I really hope it's not Matt Brash for Reynolds.

I don't mind Emerson but Brash is a dude imho.

I would buy Matt Brash the plane ticket and his first meal in Pittsburgh.seattlefan-daBronx wrote: ↑Fri Dec 23, 2022 10:13 pmI really hope it's not Matt Brash for Reynolds.

Perhaps Gurriel will be the righthand-hitting platoon partner for Jarred Kelenic in leftfield.
Or not.

I hope not. 2 home runs away in 258 plate appearances last season.harmony wrote: ↑Fri Dec 23, 2022 11:27 pmMeanwhile John Bitzer at Baseball Trade Values speculates that the Diamondbacks will flip Lourdes Gurriel Jr. for a prospect:Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Fri Dec 23, 2022 9:12 pmThat's a pretty heavy trade.

Re: Finally! Official Hot Stove League Thread
To the dismay of critics, the Seattle front office could fill out the roster with trades for 29-year-old outfielders Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (2023 salary of $5.4 million) and Max Kepler (2023 salary of $8.5 million). The resulting lineup with Steamer's 2023 wRC+ projections:
C Cal Raleigh 114
1B Ty France 129
2B Kolten Wong 109
SS J.P. Crawford 109
3B Eugenio Suarez 107
RF Max Kepler 108
CF Julio Rodriguez 142
LF Jarred Kelenic 105 / Lourdes Gurriel Jr. 116
DH Teoscar Hernandez 119
It seems like a Mariner plan.

Can Lourdes Gurriel Jr. score runs in bunches? Because that's what dipoto said he is looking for in his right-hander and they don't grow on trees

That's why the Mariners may settle on a Lourdes Gurriel Jr. type.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sat Dec 24, 2022 1:05 amCan Lourdes Gurriel Jr. score runs in bunches? Because that's what dipoto said he is looking for in his right-hander and they don't grow on trees
It's time for a reality check. Aaron Judge is not coming to Seattle. Neither is Brandon Nimmo. Bryan Reynolds is a longshot even if the Mariners empty the farm.
Baseball Trade Values assigns surplus values of $5.6 million for Gurriel and $5.8 million for Kepler. Seattle's competitive balance draft pick alone has a listed value of $6.2 million. Gurriel and Kepler could be affordable.
