Crawford put up 2.8 WAR, that's a waste of $10 mil?
According to fangraphs, among qualified shortstops the only guy that was paid more, but produced less was Javier Baez.

And that's at Crawfords $6M salary. Next year it jumps to $11M.

Aside from Baez, the only three guys that had lower production were each making $5M or less.

It's pretty hard to do worse than JP Crawford did in 2022. Paying him 8.5% of payroll (or about 1/12th of the overall budget) to do it is a little bit of a waste when his 2.0 fWAR is only 17th out of 21 qualified shortstops.

Shortstops get handed WAR for breathing.

Am I missing something? Feldman hasn't pitched since 2017

Very odd phrasing but he is saying that the Astros were about ready to go for it so they signed a mid range pitcher on a multi year deal.

There have to be better example. Feldman really didn't do much for them and was gone before they won it all.....

Ironically they beat the Orioles in signing him
The Orioles might have seemed like favorites to re-sign starting pitcher Scott Feldman, but they've been priced out of even that market. Feldman has signed a three-year, $30 million contract with the Houston Astros.

It wasn't a "go for it" signing. Believe it was perceived as an add leadership signing to a very young pitching staff. I remember comments from that pitching staff reflecting on how they appreciated Feldman.
.KISSIMMEE, Fla. - On most clubs, Scott Feldman probably wouldn't be thrust into this role. He would be regarded as another guy, not the guy.

Feldman, 31, is the highest-paid player on the Astros, set to make $12 million in 2014. The team signed the 6-7 righthander this offseason to a three-year, $30 million deal, and he's expected to instill stability on a young team that has only known losing lately
I don't know if it applies to the Orioles, they are not the losers the Astros were at the time, might not be a good example

The Correa saga continues. He’s apparently not interested in restructuring the deal, and there’s a good chance it will fall through. My guess is he’s going to wind up with a deal like the one the Twins gave him - 3 or 4 years instead of 12-13.

Three teams have checked in with him in the past few days. I used to be excited about the possibility of landing Correa, but not so much now. Kind of doesn’t matter - I’m 99% sure the M’s are not one if the 3 teams showing interest.
