Seriously? Bazardo has had like 1 or 2 bad outings since June. Legume just comes out and dry humps us every time.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Sun Aug 10, 2025 5:14 amFangraphs has Eduard Bazardo worth -0.1 fWAR and Casey Legumina at 0.0...

okay, and i think they do, or at least debate it. Seems like I have ran across articles with these guys debating each other on how to improve it. It's not static, and there's a lot of egos involved. I see it as a big brain thing, I'm not the one to tell them how to do it.I think the numbers should be adjusted slightly... just me though.
Pitcher fWAR is also really, really silly. They do theirs by FIP when a pitcher's sole job is to limit runs.

for me the point of something like WAR is to get beyond relying on personal impressions. It doesn't make sense to me to go along with WAR unless it doesn't agree with what i think i am seeing.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Sun Aug 10, 2025 5:14 amFangraphs has Eduard Bazardo worth -0.1 fWAR and Casey Legumina at 0.0...

Bazardo has a 2.93 ERA (reduced after today) but a FIP of 4.36.Millikin wrote: ↑Sun Aug 10, 2025 5:16 amSeriously? Bazardo has had like 1 or 2 bad outings since June. Legumina has a 5.31 ERA but a xERA of 3.34 and FIP of 4.12...
According to Fangraphs, Legumina is the better pitcher.
Which is also why the M's might be keeping him around because his expected numbers are really good.
But that's silly... a guy either gives up runs or he doesnt. That's a skill.

But I've seen (or heard) nearly every pitch of Mariners baseball this season. Legume is shit and bazardo is good.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sun Aug 10, 2025 5:19 amfor me the point of something like WAR is to get beyond relying on personal impressions. Absolutely - that 0-1 pitch to first batter Junior Caminero was absolute dogshit even at 97mph. Even Angie said something like, "this isn't the location he wants for that pitch"Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Sun Aug 10, 2025 4:38 amMan Munoz doesnt have many clean innings does he...
The tale-of-the-tape is quite frightening.
1st Batter Faced stats this season (using baseball reference so don't know if that's updated with today, its even worse if todays hit isn't included)
46 games
8 singles
1 HR
6 walks
1 intentional walk
1 HBP
15 strikeouts
.356 OBP

and it also doesn't seem to have much relevance for how he's perceived as an effective closermostonmike wrote: ↑Sun Aug 10, 2025 5:34 amAbsolutely - that 0-1 pitch to first batter Junior Caminero was absolute dogshit even at 97mph. The heart attacks every 9th inning are a bit much and the traffic he's allowing will eventually bite him.
Both can be true.

Re: Evans vs.Boyle G.T. 8/9/25
it shouldn't be true, if a lack of clean innings is indicative of it eventually hurting him he shouldn't be ranked as the sixth best, that's the point of doing that kind of research

the point of the thing is predicting future outcomes, it says to me his messy innings are not relevant to predicting his future outcomes
