$20 mil a season? He's put up 7 war over the last six seasons. I don't know, we shall see. A. Move Polanco over there or;
B. Let Geno Walk & try for a short term deal with Max Muncy. Dude is raking in LA. Wouldn't cost much either.
We missed the Alonso and Freeman and Olson sweepstakes. Time to go big on a top tier 1B and get aggressive. Based on market value I’d say 4 years, $88M or 5 years, $100M. He’s only 28 and is in his most productive years, so lock him in. He’s been nothing short of stellar for the M’s since we picked him up.

It’s early, but some of the pundits like Passan are predicting $100M is likely for Naylor (unless he goes with a short term contract) based age, production, and comparable contracts.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Thu Aug 14, 2025 5:36 pm

It will definitely cost to get him. Maybe $20M per year is too high, but someone might pay it. M’a should ante up.

Yeah, looking at it, that's probably realistic actually. See how it unfolds, the annual costBig_Maple wrote: ↑Thu Aug 14, 2025 5:46 pmIt’s early, but some of the pundits like Passan are predicting $100M is likely for Naylor (unless he goes with a short term contract) based age, production, and comparable contracts.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Thu Aug 14, 2025 5:36 pm

I’m just curious why four teams have traded him.HawkandMariner88 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 14, 2025 4:57 amMy first priority is bringing back Naylor. At this rate I'd look elsewhere for production from 3B. My choices be.

Cleveland got a nothing pitcher for him.

Naylor has never been that valuable. we are definitely focused on a SSS as opposed to a career. it's hard not to be, its been A heck of a run so far. He's put up more WAR for the Mariners than he did for the entire season with the Dbacks.Hy Feiber wrote: ↑Sun Aug 17, 2025 5:46 pmI’m just curious why four teams have traded him.HawkandMariner88 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 14, 2025 4:57 amMy first priority is bringing back Naylor. The Mariners should seriously consider bringing back Paul Sewald on a 1-year deal.

I'd spend all our money on all new relievers. Just me.

Not really. He's been injured this year and last and before that he was great. But even these last two years where his ERA has risen, his peripheral stats have been pretty similar.
But what he could bring, if healthy, are plus pitches in the middle of the bullpen. Obviously, there's risk that the injuries have done him in. We just don't know. And of course, he may not be available at all. Cleveland traded him to Detroit and once he gets to pitching again, maybe they decide they like what they see. But if he's available, the Mariners baseball team should consider bringing him back.
And you know, I wonder if the experience this year has changed how our team's braintrust views bullpen construction. I get that there are limited resources and you don't want to overspend on relievers and watch them perform like Ryne Stanek. But you can make that group a little bit more of a priority and it wouldn't have to be overspending. You can do better.

Naylor has never really been a top tier first basemen. This year he is 13th in fWAR, 14th in HR, 15th in Slugging Percentage and Fangraphs has him ranked 18th in Defense. That is firmly middle of the pack. I would like to aim higher especially since we have so much trade capital.
