According to columnist Mark Feinsand at MLB.com, Teoscar Hernandez filed an arbitration figure of $16 million and the Mariners submitted an arbitration figure of $14 million:

https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-arbitratio ... 3704563169

MLB Trade Rumors had projected Hernandez with a 2023 arbitration salary of $14.1 million and Spotrac estimated his 2023 salary at $14,463,983.

It's a cheap shot to call the Seattle front office "cheap" on the basis of Friday's reported exchange of arbitration figures.

Friday was the deadline for parties to submit figures. Their submissions may be a formality if the parties are working on a long-term extension as rumored last week:

I agree $16M is too much for him to expect. No way we extend him. He will want to test FA.
GO MARINERS!

WHATEVER IT TAKES! (unless it costs a franchise worth billions the franchise-altering salary of Trevor Gott to make someone happy)

It seems silly but it would set precedent and F up every arb negotiation going forward as players would expect them to go 10% higher than the estimates.

So, what if they don’t reach an agreement with Teoscar? Of the 3, he’s the one we want the most. Would be a waste of a trade to not pay him what he’s asking for.

Soto reached a $23M deal with the Padres. Why are we dicking around with Teoscar???
You guys get worked up over such meaningless shit. I guess your lives suck.

Mariners can continue to negotiate with Teoscar all the way up to the scheduled hearing.

Maybe the Mariners should trade for Giancarlo Stanton.

Every player is different.

This is an AS level player you just traded for and hope to extend. Seems pretty sad that the M’s can even negotiate a price to avoid arbitration with a guy who hasn’t been in the door for a half hour that you would think would be high on the agenda to impress.

Dylan Moore and Diego Castillo can kick rocks for all I care.

The Mariners may hold the upper hand in negotiations if the reported figures are accurate. If the matter goes to a hearing the arbitrator must choose either the $14 million salary or the $16 million salary when the projections were in the $14.1 million to $14.5 million range.

Moore put up 1.4 WAR in 255 PAs and Teo 2.8 in 535. Moore could have got done for a few hundred thousand more. That one seems crazier to me. Castillo is a Wild El Cerdo.

Hey VolgelTroll. Thanks for your pithy insights. Imagine discussing baseball on a baseball forum.

Someone's life sucks. Ain't mine.

M's continue to try and emulate the Braves:
Dipoto hasn't gone to arbitration in his tenure as mariners GM, and I seriously doubt he does with Teo, unless Teo agent is an idiot
