you are cutting White and his $24 mil contract
If the alternative is having a negative WAR 1B again, then yes, I would try to trade him.
Nobody is trading White. He's not going anywhere lol.

And if he turns out to be terrible, nobody will trade for him. He pretty much has to pan out or it's going to throw a big monkey wrench into things, especially if this goes on for several years like it did with Smoak.
Yeah, if White doesn't make it the plan will take a hit, but it is not a death blow, especially if France can hit (probably 1B is his best position), and I've thought from the beginning White was somewhat iffy, especially at 1B. His big contract right out of AA still seems like a mystery -- sometimes you've just got to wonder about Dipoto, even with these terrific trades. And like I've said before, I worry some about Crawford's bat, I really hope he can bring up his average another 20 points. He seems more important long-term than White because SS is so essential and difficult to fill.
This is pretty much how I feel.

Only difference is I rank 1B very high on the list of essentials for a quality team. You can even get away with a defensive specialist at SS.

But you put your team in a hole when you're missing a power bat at 1B that pretty much every contending team will have.

Seattle's problem is they keep putting themselves at a competitive disadvantage thinking they're reinventing the wheel with these "speed" and "defense" first guys at traditional OPS positions. Immediate disadvantage on putting runs on the board. Which is the only way to win.

Agreed. Dipoto has made acquiring guys like that his calling card.

I am not a Dipoto fan at all. He has made some solid trades as of late. The minor leagues prospect rankings are rising for sure. Nice arms. But, little to no impact bats like a lot of other organizations. Rodriguez? Maybe. But is fragile. Jared, nice but not a power impact. Lewis is good for sure. But, still no real impact. He seems to go for other type bats. We will See going forward. I just don’t trust him. Didn’t he say two years and we’d be competitive?? Then be patient. Now it’s 2022 at the earliest.

I don’t trust him.

If, over the last two years, this team had acquired three solid players instead of letting it ride on bums, they could have been competitive THIS season.

They keep punting it down the road, but as soon as they stop handing out positions to undeserving players they can make a run at winning.

2 key acquisitions going into 2021 and there's zero reason this team couldn't battle for a Wild Card, imo.

Swap out Bishop/Mallex/Dee/Long for actual quality players and this team doesn't suck.

They didn't have to suck this season. I remember saying as much.

This is why I don’t trust him. I think it is flat out job security. No evaluation or expectations when trading and what not—- saying be patient. So, Dipoto is absolutely free from any criticism. Saying we will be good later. Trust him.

Smart on Dipoto just to do whatever he wants without any consequences.

1. Get a couple quality FAs.
2. Don't let our best relievers rot in Tacoma and don't sign garbage like Shaw.
3. Dump Mallex and Dee and Vogey before the season starts
4. Let white get his feet wet last season like we did with Lewis

Then we EASILY have 4 more wins and are 19-18 and are in the thick of the WC hunt. All that would have cost us maybe $20M.

I agree JD has made some head scratchers as in finger nails scraping skull bone type head scratchers but what you said in red is lunacy.
