They will say the guys coming off the IL like Julio will be “just as good as a trade!”

That and I've already heard some Mariners talking heads say stuff like, "with Robles playing like he is, maybe the Mariners don't need bats as bad..."

Nevermind that it could be a temporary hot streak before he goes back to career numbers.

Would be nice to get Soto, but I can't imagine him coming to Seattle after he's seen the kind of numbers he can put up in NY, for any amount of money. He can become a legend in that little league field.

I’ve been curious about that, Millikin. He has been fantastic with the M’s, and maybe it was a much needed change of scenery, or maybe he clicked with our hitting coach, or maybe he just matured and figured shit out. If so - keep on, keeping on.

But maybe it’s a hot streak. Maybe he’s got a case of Kelenicitis, and he will come down from the stratosphere soon. I hope not, and I hope I didn’t just jinx it.

But consider his slash lines in Seattle versus Washington:

Seattle (1 year): .357/.423/.529
WSN (8 years): .236/.311/.356

His career would tell you that he’s streaking right now and punching above his weight class. Then again, baseball is a weird sport. Maybe he’s just figured it out. Regardless, I am happy to see him hit like he’s hitting as long as he is in a mariners uniform.

On the one hand, Boras has said that $498MM would keep Soto in New York, and that would be good for their “brand” so it would be a good deal for them. If they structured it like Ohtani’s (the new template for huge contracts, I’m sure), then they could do it and avoid luxury tax.

Then again, Scott Boras is also a big fan of free agency, especially when he thinks he can get more on the open market than he can with a contract extension.

But to your point, there’s no way the Mariners would pay a half $1 billion for Juan Soto. Or for the ghost of Bane Ruth. Or for Jesus Christ himself.

He seems sort of fed up being a Yankee.

Grew pretty frustrated in an interview that it was just him and Judge as the talent.

They've also been gun shy with money of late.

I think you misunderstood, Donn.

I said maybe he clicked with the hitting coach.

Then I concluded he was over performing based on previous data, but I hoped he would stay hot regardless of how he got there!

Yeah if DeHart knows the magic combination of words to make Robles kick ass, I'm all for it.

Well, that was a bit of a letdown.
lol more than a 'bit' - while I applaud the Arozarena deal - its obvious we needed more. Not sure what TB was asking for in Diaz but seems like we should have made that deal as he was available, just the asking price was high. Not sure if Vlad was ever available but just adding on Turner ontop of a good move is not good enough. They sat down and put their feet in the pool instead of jumping in. Another bat would have made our lineup incredible if you could have had something like Robles/Arozarena/Julio/Vlad/Raleigh as your top 5. Now we hope that Robles can stay hot through to the end of the year as well as Arozarena or else we go nowhere.
Bell, DeJong, De La Cruz, Canha, Randy A., Isaac P., Winker, Soler, Lane Thomas, Turner ?
Did I miss any notable moves of bats

The Paredes deal we did not have a CC young position player to match. We got 2 of the better bats and 2 BP parts
I think you could only argue that Randy and Isaac are the cream of the crop followed by Winker Soler Lane T, and then Turner, and then garbage (France DFA, Canha, Bell DFA, DeJong, De La Cruz, JD Davis DFA not trade still DFA limbo)

We got 2/7 above average bats and I think we got the best one.

I wish we could have got Isaac P., and one of the other good relievers like Tanner Scott.
Isaac P. is the only bat that got moved that I really coveted.
Completely agree with you.

The other trade targets I would have wanted just didn't get traded at all at the deadline. We didn't get Vladdy or Diaz but neither did the Astros.
