Atlanta? Cool, maybe then he has an unbiased opinion which he happens to get paid for. Does that seem like a lot? I really have no idea, but the deal is those two would basically be premier pieces if the dbacks decide to deal them. What kills me is how everyone wants to make trades and go to a WS but there can't be any pain. Seriously, if you are getting Suarez and Naydor it's going to hurt a little. You do understand there's other teams involved. Your getting pissed about it makes me feel it could be reflective of their value.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Sun Jul 13, 2025 3:46 pmBecause Dave Holcomb, a beat writer for Athlon covering Atlanta sports teams who writes novels about James Bond, says so?Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sun Jul 13, 2025 8:09 amSo here you probably negotiationing with Sloan, Morales and Garcia, that's where the pitching prospects begin, all three for Suarez and Naydor

His argument is, "the Mariners pitching staff is good, so they can probably give up pitching prospects."
Why do you agree with that?
And then there's this gem:
"Seattle is a tougher place to hit home runs than Arizona. But it's hard to argue Suárez is going to see a big dip in production given what Cal Raleigh has done in Seattle this season."
Wtf does that mean? How does what Cal Raleigh has done qualify how Geno will hit in a Seattle uniform?

Re: How do we improve the club?
As per what it might take to land Geno... comparable trades I've seen in the past for a pure rental bat are:
JD Martinez (.305/.388/.630/1.018 w. 16 homers and a 165 OPS+) from the Tigers to the Diamondbacks: Tigers received players who would be come the no. 12 (Dawel Lugo), 26 (Sergio Alcantra), and out of the top -30 (Jose King) prospects by season's end.
Yonder Alonso (.266/.369/.527/.896 w. 22 homers and a 141 OPS+) from the A's to the Mariners: A's received Boog Powell, who would be unranked in their farm system by season's end.
Jaimer Candelario (.258/.342/.481/.823 w. 16 homers... but worth 3.1 bWAR... and a 121 OPS+) for Kevin Made and DJ Herd who would be the no. 12 and 23 ranked prospects in the Nats season by season's end.
Trading for Geno I doubt would cost much more than what you see there for Martinez or Candelario. No way Ryan Sloan is included in the deal. But I could see Michael Morales or Emerson Hancock, a random pitcher in the 20-30 range and a flier on an unranked player in rookie ball. Suarez is also making a lot more money than Martinez and Alonso were when traded. If it costs much more than that, it would be surprising.

That's what I'm thinking, too. Even if the Yanks or some other team gets involved to drive the price up another 30 percent say, it's not going to take a Sloan or a Ford and I think ARI has a good young C that they are playing so my guess is they want pitching and an OF like Peete. Now what happens if the M's ask for Geno and Kelly or Geno and Gallen? Maybe that makes them more likely to move a Hancock and Morales in a dealSeattle or Bust wrote: ↑Sun Jul 13, 2025 5:34 pmAs per what it might take to land Geno... comparable trades I've seen in the past for a pure rental bat are:

Oh god not Legumes. Inconsistent.
Re: How do we improve the club?
That series last year against this team kind of sunk the M's. Maybe this was some long overdue payback!

I don't see him as a random nobody, he's a sports writer, he makes a living following sports. Doesn't mean that's what it take bui i thnk his opinion is as legitimate as some guy on a forum. Supposedly the tigers would be the primary competition for saurez. Here's a random nobodies opinion from their prospective, suggests Jaden Hamm, that be a pretty big price. Maybe there's a tendency for these guys to exaggerate.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Sun Jul 13, 2025 5:16 pmWho got pissed?Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sun Jul 13, 2025 4:01 pmAtlanta? If young does a lot more of what he did on this road trip then he belongs and no hole to fill
In 18 plate appearances on the trip, Young hit .389 with an eye-popping 1.256 OPS. His 252 wRC+ was the highest on the team during the stretch.
