I always felt like San Diego was kind of a hard-luck sports story.
Baseball; they seem to spend money and get nowhere.
Football; they spend money and piss the fans off and get nowhere....then move 70 miles to the north.

Is there anything else in SD other than a Mountain West team?
Clippers also move to LA. I drove from San Diego to LA a year ago. It is 125 Miles.
Regardless of mileage, it does seem to qualify as a hard-luck sports city.

Losing 2 of 3 teams definitely puts them in the conversation. Has any other city lost two of 3 teams? Nope.

They're probably my #3, but they don't suffer as much because their fans aren't very passionate.

Also, we've lost an NBA and MLB franchise, which got replaced with the worst franchise in MLB history.

Oakland lost 3. NBA, NFL and MLB. They're pretty cursed.

MLB team was suffering from the Money Ball curse. Book and movie about how amazing the GM is, yet nothing to show for it, playing in a garbage dump town and arena. Then they move and get bigger crowds in a AAA stadium.

I can't remember the last time the Oakland Raiders were serious contenders. 20 years at least.

The one great team they did have, the Warriors, moved... Not too far though. I think it's about a 45-minute Bart ride from Oakland to SF. Still... You had one good team and they left.

Oakland is also the only place ever to have an In N Out Burger location close. That's one fd up city, run by idiotic losers apparently.

The Athletics four WS titles in Oakland don't count? ...three in a row?

And I don't believe SD has had a champion of any caliber.

Oakland is losing because it's a shithole city.
