Fine, give Polanco 2 years $20M lol I don't care.

Spotrac predicts precisely at $15M AAV for Naylor.

Catarina? Lol. He's a 1-WAR catcher... maybe he gets 2 years... but I'm not really sure why you're nitpicking insignificant contract details.

I am going to take a wild stab that they don't trade Ford, rather they look for ways to reduce Cal's work load going forward

Seems pretty stupid to limit the guy who runs your pitching staff for a rookie that you're going to give insignificant playing time to.

Especially when you can use said rookie to fill a big hole in your lineup.

I don't think it's a coincidence they drafted Luke Stevenson. THAT lines up more with reducing Cal's workload as he ages. Kid had a hell of a start in Modesto... 23 walks in 100 PA's for a .460 OBP.

probably very dumb but that's my bet, I bet he doesn't get traded. Dodgers have managed to add Rushing to their lineup along with Smith, I will bet the Mariners try it with Ford.

Smith is also 3 years older than Cal and Rushing has been terrible.

If the M's want to wait 3 years, then yeah, I could see that as Cal ages.

If the season has taught me anything, it’s that the Mariners are not gonna go after superstar free agents and sign them to huge lucrative contracts.

The fact that we made it this far in a postseason must be vindication for Dipoto. His business model seems to be based on developing a couple of homegrown stars and signing them to medium sized contracts (Julio, Cal) Then, go through the bargain basement bin and sign a bunch of.middling former stars or guys who are having down seasons to small contracts (Polanco). Then acquire a couple of decent pants at the trade deadline without spending too much (Geno, Naylor).

We got further in the postseason than either the Yankees or the Mets, who have spent huge amounts of money to acquire superstars. So yeah, I don’t think the Mariners are gonna go after any big names in the off-season. Why would they?
couple?...there is some pitcher developed as well isn't there? Believe you could also argue the model is to create a complete team. That's what I see, its a deep lineup, the defense is good. The pitching is good, both starting and relief.
My point is that we did it without Juan Soto, or Freddie Freeman or Aaron Judge or Ohtani. So don’t expect them to go after a Bellinger or a Bregman.

Agreed.

I'm no longer making those predictions either.

I am not trying to argue the reasoning for it, I will bet he doesn't get traded. If you want to trade him that's fine, but I will bet it doesn't happen

they have been willing to give contracts, its been to pitchers, and they are oriented to re-signing their own players. I think too there have been revenue issues, perhaps those are getting straightened out. They aren't going to be going after Bergman, getting Naylor signed would be significant. And for as much as we assume everybody hates Dipoto he has managed to get some extensions. I would assume they are working on their pitching along those lines
