We have a habit of being too much in love with our prospects even though most of them burn us (especially pretty much the entire Montero/Smoak/Ackley/etc. batch). We look at it like it's either the bird in the hand or the two in the bush when usually there turns out to be nothing in the bush. I don't think it's really "giving up" on him if we're using him to acquire a player who for at least a year or two will make the team better.
Been saying this for years. The way the past two or more decades have gone, you'd think we still have the same ownership and FO group that traded Varitek and Lowe and are so scared to do it again they just curl up into a ball. Prospects are prospects, NOTHING certain about them. They don't take away WS rings because you don't have enough home grown talent on your roster.

Celestin is years away from even being a major league player and is far from a guarantee. It would be a no-brainer to deal him for Diaz who is a .300/25 HR bat, and even if we got him one year too late, how bad could he be? Definitely not Solano or Garver bad. Dude can flat-out rake.
I tend to agree with you but for me it's more about the injury history and wondering if he can even stay on the field long enough to develop. The tools are supposed to be loud though and my guess is they don't want to give up on that quite yet.

Well, this front office has traded away plenty of prospects the last four years. I don't think they're reluctant to make deals. It also isn't clear that Tampa Bay is willing to move Yandy. We know they're sort of constantly rebuilding, but they don't tear things down completely and tank entire seasons. There does seem to be an idea there that even in a down year they should try to field a legitimate major league team.

This was interesting. Yandy was in the three team deal that brought Edwin Encarnacion to Seattle in 2019.
Seattle Acquired 1B Edwin Encarnacion and Competitive Balance Draft pick from Indians in three-team deal sending 1B Carlos Santana and $6MM from Seattle to Cleveland (Indians also traded INF Yandy Diaz, RHP Cole Sulser to Rays; Rays traded 1B/OF Jake Bauers to Indians and sent $5MM to Mariners in deal)
